Futurama Nominated for Emmy

Last year, Futurama won the Emmy in its main category even after FOX forced the production to discontinue. Now, the 55th Annual Primetime Emmy nominations are in and Futurama again conquered one of the precious 5 slots allotted to the creative arts category of "Outstanding Animated Program (For Programming Less Than One Hour)". The competition looks as follows:
  • As Told By Ginger - And She Was Gone
  • Kim Possible - Crush
  • The Simpsons - Three Gays Of The Condo
  • SpongeBob SquarePants - New Student Starfish/Clams
Futurama enters the race with the episode "Jurassic Bark" which stirred up quite some discussion and dissent among fans. The day after it aired we got a lot of hits from search terms like "Futurama Dog" as people who previously didn't get invovled into nerdy internet discussions joined in. Even by today, this episode is the most reviewed one on this site.

The winner of this year will be announced on September 13th at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles. Last year, E! aired a 2 hour special. I don't yet know if they will do so again.
Ironically, FOX's strategy of death by installments makes Futurama eligible for another Emmy nomination next year.

Assuming those voting actually watch the screeners (as opposed to "Hmmm, I've watched the Simpsons a few times, but aren't familiar with those other shows....so...Simpsons"), then Jurrasic Bark should be a slam dunk.

The only problem with "The Sting" getting a nod next year is, who will mount the "For Your Consideration" campaign? Chances are all 4 DVD sets will be available on both sides of the ocean (yes, and Austrailia) and Groening, Cohen and comopany will be involved in other projects by then.

Actually, I'm hoping "Devil's Hands" is Emmy caliber. That would be the sweetest irony of all.

Everything from "The Sting" onwards will be eligible for a nomination next year. Don't worry about them not pushing Futurama for that. I know they are aware of it and I'm sure they'll find the time to send in a tape. But first they need to win this one ;)

In case Futurama wins, FOX should be forced to air the reception. Too bad that this won't be happening as the creative Emmy awards are still handled in a "good for you" way.

kim possible?!?! please! and that episode of the simpsons sucked, i can't believe that's the one they submitted (although it may have been the strongest one THIS season). if futurama doesn't win, i will have lost all faith in the world.

Looks like Futurama's best year so far at the Emmys, only the Simpsons looks to me like competition, and I haven't seen that episode or that season for that matter. Also, no KOTH to try and take Futurama's glory.

And Devils Hands winning an Emmy would be the sweetest revenge of all.

This was a great episode.No cartoon ever made me feel that way before.

But is there anyway they could make other episodes with someone else the FOX ?

Is Kim possible and as told by ginger even of Emmy quality? There was a problem with my tv when they showed Jarrasic Bark so i only saw like the first 5 minutes, but i heard the next day it was relly good. They put Banzai on and not Futurama, how sad. Lets hope Futurama wins and fox can see its worst error it ever made.

i didn't like jarassic bark because i thought it was sad, but for ep to ep i sometimes find that along with classic simpson episodes, futurama can beat any other tv cartoon...several times...

what i find interesting is that there is a ton of hype about family guy, but yet futurama is over looked...again...i would much rather see futurama repeats over family guy (even though both are better then half the junk thats new)

i don't know, but i feel that reality shows are starting to wear thin and a bring back of cartoons like futurama and family guy could really be a huge hit

Futurama should hands-down crush this competitioin. That lame-beyond-words episode of The Simpsons was the best they could come up with? It's a throw-back to the Emmy winning "Homer's Phobia" - only not a fraction as good. The cynic in me says it might win just for the novelty of hitting it's 300th episode this season. Futurama deserves to win, but Home Movies (season 4) and this last season of South Park deserve at least a nomination over this other crap.

By the way, does anybody remember that last year FOX did this exact same thing to the edgy sitcom "Titus"? Postponed it all season and then buried the final 5 episodes in the summer. Apparently that's their strategy to get rid of shows that are still profitable. Based on this loophole where the summer episodes are eligable I would have voted for "Titus" for Best Comedy Series this year.

#15: I didn't watch Bonzai but then I haven;t watched anything on Fox except for Futurama. I have that channel blocked on my TV!

Jurassic Bark has got to win. There is a definate lack of competition and that show was far superior in quality and storytelling than all the others combined. The episode had such a strong emotional impact, I can still feel my heartstrings being tugged even though I haven't seen it again since it first aired. (sniff ;-( )

Futurama should win. There is no Bobby Hill/KoTH to deal with. That Simpsons episode was okay the first time around, but Jurassic Bark is far better than that Simpsons episode. It sucks that Jurassic Bark hasn't rerun yet. Lousy Fox!

Hazah! I can't wait to see Futurama win another Emmy, that would rock out load. I have to admitt that it hurts a bit to cheer against my two of my other fav. shows ( Simpsons & SB) but Futurama is far superior.

PS: Admit it Banzi was fun to watch. Too tacky for primtime Sunday, but fun none the less.

#4, even if FUTURAMA wins the Emmy, FOX (Gail Berman) will not care. She has constantly igonored and abused Oscar worthy comedies like FUTURAMA, ANDY RICHTER CONTROLS THE UNIVERSE, and BERNIE MAC. She can't abuse a good show like MALCOLM IN THE MIDDLE, she helped get it produced when she worked for NEW REGENCY TELEVISION. It's not fair. And by the way GAIL, I didn't see your crappy reality shows JOE MILLIONARE and MARRIED BY AMERICA recieve any Emmy nods.

I am very upset that I didn't get a chance to see JURASSIC BARK. FUTURAMA fans in Pittsburgh were subjected to watch a NFL game that Steelers fan's could care less about.

Maybe a few rusty emmys shove up Gail Berman's ass might cause her to blow up and thus returning the orginal timeline again (which would have Futurama airing a REAL season 5 instead of McSeason 5).

Anyways, I haven't actually seen Jurassic Bark yet, I was away. But either way, I'm rooting for it. Boy, would it be sweet revenge on Fox if Futurama won another Emmy.

Fox are such morons to have cancel a show after the support from the fans and the Emmy the show has won. Other motives must be behind a decision like this such as their deep resentment for the show from day 1. Just listen to the DVD commentary and you can hear Groening and David giving subtle hints to the difficulties they've had dealing with FOX.

As for the Emmy Futurama and The Simpsons are the only real competitors and Simpsons only has a chance because of its fame, Jurassic Bark definately deserves to win and I hope its done justice.

Good point. And yes, koth sucks ass. It's really hard to decide between violence and non violence though. I'm serious. Violence will show them who's boss, but get us in trouble. Non-violence won't get us in trouble, but it won't show them who's boss. I don't know why they want to cancel it. I mean, the reason tv was created was to escape reality. Lousy fox bastards.

I am from Czech Republic Europe - Futurama was never shown on our TV - I know all episodes just downloading them from internet.And there is so much fans here in my country.I just dont believe it is over.The sence of humour is so brilliant.I say: Damn stupid FOX television and their kind of attitude. Wish Emmy will go to Futurama. In the face of leaders of FOX!!!!! Shame on them.
