Two things back [-mArc-] up on the GameCube issue. First, SCi Games (www.sci.co.uk), the developer, only lists PS2 and XBox on its list of platforms for the game. Second, GameCube Europe (www.cube-europe.com) had THIS in their news section...

Rumours about a possible cancellation of Futurama for the GameCube were already flowing the web. Today we got the official confirmation...

SCi Games informed Cube-Europe today that Futurame will not be produced for the GameCube anymore. Why? They did not tell us, but we asume it is because of the lacking sales of the console.

We at Cube-Europe were looking forward to this title and we were shocked by this news. Hopefully SCi will change their mind, though we fear they won't."

So, it's too bad, but pretty certain that GC will NOT be getting "Futurama." Amazon.com and CDUniverse.com have it listed, but this is most likely a pre-cancellation listing that hasn't been fixed.

No Futurama for Gamecube, but the PC and the PS2 get it? Somebody's pending for a bending.

Is it coming out on the PC at somepoint? Cohen said no, but I would assume that if it can run on an X-box, it wouldn't be that hard to port.

BrainSluggo, I can tell you that all that stuff isn't definitive.

They wanted to release the game in summer, but only 2 of the versions would be finished in time. They picked PS2 and XBox to go ahead and FROZEN the production of the GC version.
They will hold a meeting this month to decide DEFINITELY what to do with the GC version (finish it or cancel it). Their decision will be based in the sales of the other 2 versions and the number of positive reviews in different magazines.
Furthermore, they have de GC version almost finished, too.

So there is still a chance for the Cube.

For all in the interview implying the show is more youth-centered, you'd think a GCN version would be mandatory... it's all I have...

My hope is that we'll see an enhanced version of Futurama for the Cube later on (Mwaaa...)

Sorry #10, but it's not bs, it's true. The GC has nowhere near the market share of the PS2 or Xbox. I don't actually know a single person who owns a GC. However, I'd like to point out that I'm making no comment on the quality of the GC and its games, I'm just stating the facts.

According to the Associated Press, Nintendo has announced that it will be halting production of GameCube systems in order to clear the back stock of systems currently sitting in warehouses. Nintendo recently announced that it sold only 80,000 units of the system last quarter, but representatives said the company will maintain it sales target for 6 million systems sold for the fiscal year. In addition, the company announced this morning that it has taken steps to spark sales by introducing a customer rewards program and announcing three new projects.

The truth is that worldwide the sales of Xbox and Gamecube are pretty much even (that 80.000-number is a typo that has been doing the rounds this week: it should be 800.000). Xbox has a slight advantage in the US and Europe but has been selling much better in Asia (where Xbox-sales are almost non-existent). Neither Xbox nor GC are performing to too well compared to the Ps2 but SCI probably decided to give Xbox the benefit of the doubt. A shame because I think that this game would sell very well on the GC.

Actually, a lot of third party games have been cancles for the gamecube do to lack of sales. Bacically, the first party games are the only things that are doing good on the cube. That, combined with nintendo's "kiddy" image and it isn't all that suprising that futurama was cancled (I wish it wasn't though... I have a ps2 but...)

I was a little suprised at how he said it was more of a kiddy show and he though nobody would watch it at 11. Frankly, that's the only time it could be played on cartoon network without getting angry phone calls from enraged parents if you ask me. It does have a lot of objectionable material.

Isn't Futurama so horribly expensive to produce in comparison to shows like Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Sealab, etc, that CN could never hope to support it with what it needs?

Well yeah but- if you ask me- those shows are horrible.
I think Futurama costs so much because they put in the extra effort (with the occasional 3D animation) to make it stand out. I'm pretty sure the people at CN know this as it shows by the increase in viewership.
If CN was smart (which I know they are ;), they'd shell out the extra cash to get some new seasons going. But I know that's a long shot.

God damn I'm gonna miss this show. It feels like I'm losing a best friend. I've lost a couple of best friends before but I've never felt this crummy!

Actually, the GameCube has seen in increase in the number of third-party games. It is the XBox that is seeing a decline in third party titles, but an increase in the number of high-profile releases which signals a change in Microsoft's strategy changing from whoring the system to anyone, to strategically targetting developers to make high-quality games.

Again, the GameCube is getting more games this year than in the previous year, which is helped by a huge increase in third party titles slated for this fall and winter.

And as for XBox sales, GameCube software consistently sells more titles than XBox. It's a strange thing and may have to do with the number of quietly released games for the XBox. But take a look at the numbers. Halo is obviously the best-selling game, but the second best-selling game sold less than 1/10 the number of copies as Halo has. The number of sales for Cube games are a bit more consistent.

But I like em all, and as long as you are happy with your console purchase don't rain on anybody elses parade.

Fanboys need to shut up and let those who aren't emotionally invested in their console tell the truth.

PleasePlea ... easePlease Groening, CN Execs, Cohen, et. al. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE produce more Futurama episodes! Screw FoxTV - aside from The Simpsons they have nothing left worth watching now that the last Futurama has aired.

Even though Sagal, West, Di, and so forth demand larger salaries than typical voiceover actors, Futurama can and will turn a profit if you both 1) make it a permanent Adult Swim fixture and b) release each season to DVD with plenty of extras. Also merchandise, merchandise, merchandise! Do what Fox did back in '89 with The Simpsons - get Futurama T-shirts and sweatshirts into every novelty shop and convenience store you can find, and actually PROMOTE the show. ]

Just look at how well Futurama did on Fox even though those idiots at Fox played musical timeslots with the show and preempted it for football recaps, baseball playoffs, garden slug racing and every single other excuse they could find, and never promoted the show. Just think about how much profit you could earn if you produced more quality episodes and actually gave it some honest-to-goodness marketing efforts!

Please, you want to produce more episodes; you MUST produce more episodes. More. More. MORE! MORE!!!! I NEED MORE FUTURAMA!

I will probably buy the Futurama game, but not before I buy the season 2 DVD set.

From the third party publisher's perspective, Gamecube is the worst platform in terms of sales. Of multiplatform titles, PS2 sells the most, Xbox sells second, and Gamecube is dead last. The biggest multiplatform hit this year, Enter the Matrix, sold extremely poorly on Gamecube, compared to the others. The main reason is people buy a Gamecube for Nintendo games. The top selling Gamecube games are all first-party. Third party non-exclusive games don't sell well at all. That's why Vivendi Universal, as well as other software companies, are cancelling Gamecube ports because they noticed this trend.
