Can't get enough Futurama

Futurama Season 4 DVD Preorder

Not trying to upset the Americans or anything, but Europeans can now preorder the 4ACV Futurama DVD set for November 17th at amazon.co.uk. While they first had it at 12% off, I now feel well about sending you their way as they changed it to 30% off, making it £27.99.

This set includes the final 18 episodes produced by FOX complete with a commentary track for each of them. For the other extras, check our previous news on it.

As many of the non-English European nations aren't done with airing Futurama on TV, I very much doubt that their local versions will be available anytime soon. I had no problems importing Season 3 from the UK though (came out cheaper than ordering it locally here...). Futurama is best with its original English sound anyway. Non-Europeans with PAL/Region2 players can of course get happy with it, too.

UPDATE: When I posted this news, it was on DVD sales rank 205. A few hours later it made it to #25 and right now it's #7 topseller and #5 in preorders. Good work, whoever of you is buying
UPDATE UPDATE: Order rank #4 now; preorder rank #2! Even the soon to be released Simpsons Season 3 is nowhere close to that right now (Order #36).

you can already preorder this set at cdon.no (in norway. it says it has a release date 26. of November. check out if you read norwegian. The set is said to be imported from sweden.
well, if you can't read norwegian, got to the cdon adress i printed down, and watch the cover of the set. you think its fake?
VamsiSep 16th 2003, 17:10
I had preordered it earlier in the week, but was able to cancel my order and get it at the lower price. Can't wait till November 17th!
WezzoSep 16th 2003, 17:35
That cover on the Norwegian site looks ace! Nice greeny colour.. can't wait.. roll on November!
metallirockSep 16th 2003, 18:02
Why do the Europeans get these great DVD collections first. Isn't Futurama an American show? Wasn't it MADE IN THE GOOD OL' USA? WE should get it first. We don't even have the third season yet and they get the final one. BAH!!! This is agravating!
JamesSep 16th 2003, 19:34
Futurama is just more popular in the UK than the US metallirock.
[-mArc-]Sep 16th 2003, 19:52
#6: Wezzo: That cover on the norwegian site is a fake. They just exchanged the colors of the 3rd. Don't trust them ;)
BrianVSep 17th 2003, 01:11
"WE should get it first"

No, everybody should get it at the same time.
ThomasJKruseSep 17th 2003, 01:27
i guess what hes trying to say is of all people we should get it first but i dunno
dailybeatingSep 17th 2003, 01:47
hey it says this on that site.. "Region 2 encoding (Europe, Middle East & Japan only)".. so how can you view it on your dvd players?
YanciFrySep 17th 2003, 02:40
Magic #12
CoughingupalungdudeSep 17th 2003, 04:14
I personally think is to see if the set is good enough to sale in the US ... just in case there is some minor bugs or something in the region 2 dvd's they have to fix... plus they have to add the normal french and spanish tracks to the us version which takes longer. What I'm saying is that the region 2 dvds are guinea pigs for us ;) j/k

On a different note, this will be the LAST set to be released!!! Noooooooo ... it was just like yesterday that I got the first set ...
KimberlySep 17th 2003, 04:47
I want NEW eposides!
nopeSep 17th 2003, 05:03
i thought i wanted new episodes and was very sad when i heard futurama was going to die but, i now think the show ended when it should have. the last several episodes were REALLY wierd which is usually a sign that the writers are running out of ideas, and one of the things that made futurama great was the story in the episode. if there was another season i think most of the episodes would suck and id rather remember futurama at its prime then watch it fall apart.

just my thoughts so im probly wrong, maby this is just my way of coping with the loss of futurama, my best friend.
janekSep 17th 2003, 06:28
Thanks guys for the info, I preordered immediately. I am also kind of sad this is the last one, on the other hand, futurama died strong and unbeaten. :-)) We shall not forget! :-)
urakhuntSep 17th 2003, 07:00
#16 the last few episodes were all bendercentric... in their correct order they are brilliant.

and most of season 5 err 4 err whatever, was trying to wrap up the storys they had no intention of completing until perhaps the 5th or maybe 6th production run.
MwanawimbiSep 17th 2003, 13:55
"Futurama is best with its original English sound anyway."

No! The French voices are much better than the English ones. Each one sounds more different and typical, especially for characters like Zoidberg, Farnsworth and Bender.
It's the same with the Simpsons, and most off all South Park (English voices suck, because they are almost only made by Parker and Stone).
I add that I only watch "real" movies subtittled (dubbing voices suck in French for films)...

Viva la Resistance
frenchsuckSep 17th 2003, 15:39
sorry but the french suck!!! nothing is better--NOTHING--than the ORIGINAL voices done by Billy West, John Dimaggio, and kate sagel!!! they are just supierior in every way froggy!!!!!
questerSep 17th 2003, 15:40
this might've been covered already but does anyone want to take a stab at explaining why the dvds come out non-US first? i mean, a simultaneous release would make more sense. i have no region 2 player :(
frenchsuckSep 17th 2003, 15:47
sorry but the french suck at everything. war, talking, food...dont get me started on the food. the only truely great voices on futurama are Billy West, John dimaggio, and katey sagel. Sorry froggy!
VamsiSep 17th 2003, 17:13
#21 - I think it has to do with maximizing the profits from syndication. Since Cartoon Network won't begin airing Season 4 episodes til November, they want to give them a nice long run before releasing the DVD here.

My guess is it will be released in the US around this time next year. If you can't wait, you can do like I did and by a region-free DVD player, so you can import Region 2 releases.
NicvsorSep 17th 2003, 18:04
All Northen Europe (Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Finland) will see the release of the 4'th season on November 26. The boxset can already be preordered
on several online DVD sites, not only though this one is probably the largest ...

My guess, when it comes to the question of why are these DVD's released in Europe first, is that they want to test the market first, and see how they are received before going to US.
MasterLukeSep 17th 2003, 18:49

No! The French voices are much better than the English ones.

i can't believe that although i never heard the french voices...
[-mArc-]Sep 17th 2003, 19:06
There are samples of the french sound on our "Other Sounds" page and you can listen to it on your S1/S2 DVDs. What I mostly mean is that the jokes just aren't the same in different languages. Some things just won't translate. Besides that, I also like the English voices best, but that's up for discussion ;)
BrageSep 17th 2003, 21:20
stop dissing fake norwegian dvd covers

i ur face region 1
BrageSep 17th 2003, 21:24
the reason why the DVD is comming out in europe first is that it's not the same people that made the show that releases it in europe. there for as long as it have high ratings in USA. it will never come out (seinfeldt anyone)
CrackMansionSep 17th 2003, 22:31
When will Season 3 and Season 4 DVDS come out in the US?
KevinSep 18th 2003, 00:12
Damn it. When's S3 coming to region one? We Canadian's need Futurama too!
StinkySep 18th 2003, 00:25
Wooowowowo ... oooowooooo ( Homers voice spinning on the floor)
WesleySep 18th 2003, 02:57
It would've been funny if they refused to record a French language track just to stick with the show's continuity.
WezzoSep 18th 2003, 07:52
Thanks, Marc.. I still like the idea of green though! :)
hoseheadSep 18th 2003, 08:44
dvds just have higher sales in europe then here in north america, i think that's the only real reason that they come out there first. Futurama isn't the first show to have this happen: south park, x-files, enterprise; were all out on dvd/video way before they were in north america, demand is just higher there
KazzahdraneSep 18th 2003, 11:25
It's all about the money, and shows are worth more to FOX when they're watched on US tv that European TV. That's why you have to wait so long for DVDs of TV series.
snipeSep 18th 2003, 12:03
good on you Kazzahdrane, lucky for us there is another american who knows everything here (its not like theres a shortage). perhaps FOX makes more money because the US is heavily regulated and not the free society we are told. Anyway I don't care, I bought my News Corp low and you can all pay for it, thanks
modorciSep 18th 2003, 15:47
Hi, never posted here before but wanted to respond to a couple of comments.

A) What's wrong with a US TV series being released in Europe first? You often get 'our' films shown at 'your' cinemas before we've had a chance to see them - anyway, I think the UK deserves Futurama first - we should get something from our 'special relationship' with your country - God knows American tourists have abandoned us this year.

B) Futurama hasn't turned weird in the final series (see post 16) - it was always weird and thank God! In series 1 we found out that Slurm comes out of a space worms arse; saw the moon turned into a grotesque theme park; and witnessed aliens attacking because they want to find out the plot of a 20th century soap opera... Isn't that weird enough?

I watch very little television, but love Futurama as it is progressive, inventive, surreal and rarely patronises its audience. In series 4 the Fry / Leela relationship was handled beautifully and characters like Amy and Hermes finally seemed to find their feet - making Hemes a stoner in the final episode was a fantastic touch!

What a shame Fox / Sky 1 / Channel 4 UK have treated this show so badly.
bahhumbugSep 18th 2003, 20:15
europe sucks!!! Futurama is an american show with some canadian help. It needs to be here first. the only reason the dorks over seas get it first is because they are guniy pigs. FOX wants to see how much it sells there to get an idea here!!! I reiterate...Europe (exept Ireland) sucks!!
imcanadianSep 18th 2003, 22:01
Damn straght # 30
I'm just mad cause its more expensive in Canada then in America (stupid exchange rate LOL)

As for # 22 personally I think zoidberg sounds hilarious in French but I love the way Billy West does it :)

wooooo Ireland Rules!!!!!!
SRMSep 18th 2003, 22:14
US Version, Europe Version I'll say what sucks! IMHO, it's the %@&$ DVD/Video Industry that produces its product in such a way that it can't be used everywhere in the world! That's what sucks! We should be able to take ANY DVD from ANYwhere in the world and pop it into ANY DVD player and watch it. The system should be able to decode the disc and format it in whatever the local video standard is.

But they won't because of money. The DVD/Video industry is afraid of an open world market where these things can be sold and traded freely because then they wouldn't be able to manipulate the prices at a local level.
BenSep 19th 2003, 01:14
Dear Bahhumbug...

In Europe we may be 'guiny' pigs - but at least we can spell.

Ben

Speak for yourself.
Also the french suck. THEY DO THEY DO THEY DO. FUTURAMA IS VERY COOL TO MAKE FRNCH DIE OUT AND THE STUPID FROGS CAN LEARN A LESSON FROM THE BEST SHOW EVER.
GOD (OR WHOEVER IT IS AS LONG AS THEY AREN'T FRENCH) BLESS ENGLAND AND ALL OF THE DVDS IT RECEIVES.........

As some "good news" for us, Futurama will also be aired in Turkey next season on CNBC-E (also NBC affiliate)

Theres a lot of bigotry here, oh well :P

I know it seems unfair when different areas get things before other areas, but just try to be patient. You Americans usually always get Video Game titles before us here in the UK and the rest of Europe. It balances out.
