Can't get enough Futurama

Season 4 DVD Review

It's been a week since the final DVDs have been released in the UK and I finally managed to write a review for the undecided (shame on you!)
For the reading lazy ones: go get them!
For the reading lazy Aussies: looks like you can already get them, too.
For the rest: read the Futurama Season 4 DVD review.

Woo! Another first comment! I am such a Nerdlinger!

Thanks for posting the easter eggs - I've got RSI in both thumbs trying to find the bloomin' things. I'm off to watch them all! Yay!

Just from looking at that picture of all the boxes, it's a shame that the 1st box set doesn't really fit in with the others. I suppose it's because FOX HE wouldn't have been sure it was going to sell, but then made a real effort for Season 2.
ArachnidNov 30th 2003, 21:49
What about us New Zealanders? Anything Aussies can play, we can play better! ;)
*grumbles* Still waiting for my DVDs to arrive, however...

Whats weird there is that mArc's copies of S1 have "Futurama" back to front but on my copies they're the same way as the other sets.

And mine are the R2 release as well, before anyone asks. And I think my housemate's copies are the same as mArc's, so they must have changed the production run at some point.

I'm not a lazy Aussie, just a poor Aussie. :(
JerecDec 1st 2003, 07:27
Heh, I ordered it after all. I'll let the bill sit on my Ammex for a little while, and if the DVDs don't work, I'll sell it on eBay.com.au
RommelDec 1st 2003, 10:27
Good news everyone..I pre-ordered Season 4 through AmazonUK and it works on region4 dvds in Australia
KazzahdraneDec 1st 2003, 11:32
mArc, what language have you got Season 2 in? I ask because of the foreign words on the spine of those discs.
[-mArc-]Dec 1st 2003, 13:18
My season 1 set is from Germany and the season 2 one is from spain (it came out in Spain first, for some reason).
WezzoDec 1st 2003, 17:25
Great review there, thanks for the Easter Egg tip-offs too. ;)
JerecDec 1st 2003, 23:20
Including postage, if you order Futurama 4 from AmazonUK, it works out at $63AUD. Sweet. The retail price when it arrives here is between 80 and 90.
JayRDec 1st 2003, 23:42
So when is the Australian Release?
Anyone know?
Should I order through Amazon; only to see it in the shops tomorrow? Decisions, decisions .....
JerecDec 2nd 2003, 00:39
There is no Aussie release date yet, that I could find.
hoseheadDec 2nd 2003, 02:16
I'm still waiting for my copies to arrive from amazon uk. Has anyone else from Canada gotten there dvds yet?
santeijDec 2nd 2003, 08:43
To all the Aussie's (and NZ's)...as in the past you will probably find ordering the box set from Amazon.uk (inc postage) is cheaper than when it is released locally. With the current exchange it only me cost $62AUD!!! The last season was released locally for around $75. Also it only took around 5 days to arrive...enjoy.
JerecDec 2nd 2003, 11:31
I was always under the impression that importing was more expensive. Obviously this is not the case.

I've got Futurama season 4 but I have to wait to damn xmas. DAMN!!!!!! ... !!!!!!!!!!
JayRDec 2nd 2003, 23:20
Thanks for the Aussie release date feedback everybody. I've ordered Season 4 from Amazon.uk. Hopefully here sometime next week.
JerecDec 3rd 2003, 00:30
Season 3 DVD set came out the day after the last episode on that set aired on Channel 7 (Route of all Evil), and since 7 have got about 8 episodes left, since they haven't aired anything past "The Why of Fry", the release date is probably just waiting for them to get off their asses and finish showing the episodes. It's funny, you wouldn't think that a show at 11:30PM on Tuesdays would be cancelled nearly every second week...
johanleyDec 3rd 2003, 02:54
Jerec? Of GameFAQs? If that's you, small world.

I'm gonna have to get these someday. Especially this season, I've missed out on like 5 or 6 episodes from here and I've only seen about 5 more than once.
JerecDec 3rd 2003, 05:53
Yup, I'm Jerec from GameFAQs!
kevDec 3rd 2003, 16:48
Well employee double discount day at asda and a workshy studnt pal of mine did me proud,
hopieDec 3rd 2003, 17:54
well done season four you inspired me to order season three
brageDec 3rd 2003, 21:24
will be getting mine after school tomorow together with ninja scroll
GokiDec 4th 2003, 02:49
Woohoo! I didn't expect the european release to be coded in region 4, as soon as i buy my new computer system, i will be sure to import the DVD sets, considering that the high Aussie dollar makes for very cheap imports. The general retail prices around Australia seem to be $59.95-$69.95AUD for S1, $79.75-$89.95AUD for S2 and S3, so $62 is amazing. I cant wait to complete my collection.
CyberKnightDec 4th 2003, 11:02
<quote>also mArc's copy of season one has no picture of bender sat next to fry on the front</quote>

Surely that's just because he's removed the outer sleeve to take the pictures?
KazzahdraneDec 4th 2003, 13:08
I think he might mean from another picture mArc took of the front of the box when he originally got it.
hopieDec 4th 2003, 16:37
yeah thats what i meant
BFKDec 4th 2003, 19:56
#17 importing can be expensive. like here in norway if u buy something from the internet and it cost more than 200kr (rufly 30 USD)u have to pay 24% of the price in tax. pluss some extra fines for trying to "smuggel" something in to the country
JerecDec 5th 2003, 00:15
I guess it just depends on where you live then.
BennDec 5th 2003, 02:15
"#3 by Arachnid
What about us New Zealanders? Anything Aussies can play, we can play better! ;)"

Except rugby...

With the strength of the dollar at the moment, it's far cheaper to import the R2/4 sets from the UK (it's actually cheaper for us than it is for UK residents, as the shipping is less than the VAT they have to pay.) You get better packaging as well. I'm thinking of selling my Australian release S1 set and buying the UK version, so my entire collection will have the plastic sleeves.
BrayDec 5th 2003, 13:05
So S4 has been released in Australia? Has anyone actually seen it / purchased it in a store, or are we all importing it from the UK?

I've been to every store in town (that do DVDs) and none of them have heard anything about it. I have to wait till Monday to find out whether Video Ezy can order it in for me... I'm having no luck...
[-mArc-]Dec 5th 2003, 14:08
No, it's not out in Australia. But the UK set is working on Australian players and it's likely cheaper to order from the UK than buying locally. Read the review ;)
GavstaDec 6th 2003, 09:44
So I can be 100% sure the uk set will work on my Aussie ps2?
KazzahdraneDec 6th 2003, 10:05
Should do. If it doesn't, just return it.
JerecDec 7th 2003, 00:55
If it doesn't work, sell it on eBay. Someone will buy it, and you'll probably get your money back, and maybe a bit of profit.

Mine should turn up this week, I can't wait. I hope it does work, but if it doesn't, I have a backup plan.
briganteDec 7th 2003, 20:25
for all those who have it ..listen to commentary for devils hands are idle play things...very very very good news at the end of the commentary!
phase5Dec 24th 2003, 05:27
For the other Aussie above. I'm in Sydney and got the season 4 set from Amazon.com.uk two weeks ago. All disks play without any trouble. (Probably coded 2&4. Thats happening a lot now). I thought as soon as I order it from the UK it'll be released locally. No sign of an Australian release.
Great to see those epiosdes channel 7 didn't show, now must rush off and play the audio commentary from the last episode. (see above).
brpDec 25th 2003, 23:24
yea almost all UK region 2 dvd are also coded for australia

(commenwealth?)
deanoDec 29th 2003, 04:01
i looked on dstore.com.au and they claim that Futurama series 4 is "expected to be released on 18th Feb 2004" and will cost $87.70AUD. Hope that helps any Aussie Fans.
