Can't get enough Futurama
In Color

It was the Southerners!

Classic moment of "What the???" for me this morning:

Scouring through google's news service, I found a report titled "Angry Southerners Single Out Detractors" on a news site called "Uncle Sharky's US Press". In a list of southerner bashing samples in the media, it states:
FOX: All Cartoons on Fox
Many episodes of "The Simpsons", "The Family Guy", "Futurama" and "King of the Hill" make extensive use of Southern slurs. An overwhelming write-in campaign was successful in forcing Fox's cancellation of "The Family Guy" and "Futurama." Activists promise the same for the remaining shows.
Luckily, the site is a satire one. No clue how it found its way into the google news.

Not that I would put it past a few people around there to have tried writing in to get the shows off the air :p
t0mJan 9th 2004, 14:04
Booooooooo to the Southeners! (Unless the Creators of this site are Southeners)
ravenJan 9th 2004, 15:52
so... the southerners r the reason that futurama was cancled?
JimJan 9th 2004, 16:10
I always thought it was the English.
ElZilchoJan 9th 2004, 16:55
Seems to me that Simpsons, Futurama, and Koth seem to dole it out pretty evenly to everyone. Not sure about Family Guy. I never watched enough to say. KoTH, while making fun of people in Texas also makes fun of big city people, liberals, etc... Simpsons makes fun of everyone inluding themselves. Nothing is sacred to those people. The only Futurama I can think of that poked fun at the South was that "Lost City of Atlanta" episode. Seems like hey poke more fun at New Yorkers than Southerners.
RorschachJan 9th 2004, 17:06
Pffff! That's all they did? Big deal. If their organisation is that powerful they're aiming quite low. They should instead focus all their efforts on forcing the complete shutdown of Fox instead. Besides, if they were that efficient how come family guy is coming back.
futuramaMADJan 9th 2004, 17:18
This is for #4 JIM, Im english and I know plenty of people who like futurama, I live in the northwest of england. But Its not all englands falts
RassleJan 9th 2004, 18:10
Yeah! We should really be blaming Canada for some rediculous and made up reason!
MrAmericaJan 9th 2004, 18:45
Parody is protected under the first Amendment and that is what all those shows and movies do.
This is just as stupid as when lawyers of Barney tried to file a lawsuit on a baseball mascot when it beat up a fake Barney in a comical manner during a call game.

I'll admit that Family Guy may poke fun of the South numerous times, but it is Family Guy it pokes fun of everyone else. Blacks, Jews, Latinos and others. The same can be said about the Simpsons. Futurama, you are right #5, Deep South was the only episode in which Futurama poked fun at the South. I don't think that was the reason why FOX cancelled the show. They may use that as an excuse, but the fact is FOX hates Futurama and they could up with a million reasons why they cancelled it.
edeltrautJan 9th 2004, 19:06
Um, #9, did you even read the update?
McSomebodyJan 9th 2004, 20:01
Yeah right. I believe that soooo much.
amitJan 9th 2004, 20:48
the english??????
im english and i know for a fact that we never cancel anything because of 'stereotypes'. the USA being the most censored country in the world i'd imagine it was you lot :)
JonJan 9th 2004, 20:52
I blame canada for this entire update.
BrainSluggoJan 9th 2004, 21:05
Oh my Lawds. Ah dew hope them gap-toothed slack-jawed yokels, inbred hillbillies, and bathless likkered-up rednecks cain't get "Simpsons" cancellated over they's terrible treatment of poor ol' Cletus. Lawdy lawdy laws.

"Coooo-eee! Ah'm a-feared of the consequences here!!"

#8 and # 13 this is for u. why are you guys blamin canada, what the heck did we do. were to busy makin igloo's (lol jk), and who ever is blamin the english, ur dumb too. don't you guys forget, FOX is the place to blame its there falt that futurama is off air. and also, r you forgeting, FOX is an american company. and if you dont want to blame, blame the French
MrAmericaJan 10th 2004, 01:13
In asnwer to #10, yes I did read the article and it says the Southerners want to put a stop to forms of American Entertainment from poking fun at the South. The people who poke fun of the South that are just satirizing a stereotype, they don't really mean what they say. The South is hella easy to poke fun at, imagine not being able to do it. TV and movies would never be the same.
jmgzzJan 10th 2004, 01:57
how rediculous!

(that's all I gotta say)
ClaasJan 10th 2004, 02:18
You all failed reading comprehension. Sorry, but you'll have to do this grade over.
JitterroJan 10th 2004, 02:48
I live down south, and a lot of people here seem to enjoy making fun of rednecks and hicks. To be honest, I haven't actually seen any myself XP
DOMJan 10th 2004, 04:33
Why does eveybody is making fun of everyone?
Aren't we suppose to love ourselves, holding hands to each other, and singing hapy songs?
...?Aren't we? AREN'T WE???????????????!
AAAAAA ... !!!!!!!!!!
[:-P]
SeanJan 10th 2004, 04:50
Damn strait, 20. And 12 is right, some people and the american media are really uptite and conservatives, just look at how they treat people like Michael Moore and Bill Mar. But it's so like southern conservatives to take creadit for stopping something they didn't like
mikeJan 10th 2004, 06:35
southners?(maybe pronounced or spelled differently) sharky? subtle tolkien refrences anyone
JonJan 10th 2004, 12:14
#16, put your glasses on

"Luckily, the site is a SATIRE one. No clue how it found its way into the google news."
AndieJan 10th 2004, 16:21
Well even google says "US Press (News Satire)"
MrAmericaJan 10th 2004, 18:21
I know it is news satire, I merely was saying just how stupid this story was even for a satire.
DOMJan 10th 2004, 18:32
The trick is not to take everything PERSONNAL.
For example, in Episode 10 : A CLONE OF MY OWN, The Professor shows to his clone, Cubert, a machine who trqanslate english into some ''death language''.
Cubert says : 'HELLO ?' and the machine answer: 'BONJOUR'.
French is my native langugage (Even i'f I live in Canada), but that's not a reason to be angry about it.
It's a funny! It's really funny.
I'm not angry for that joke. We must laugh of ourselves sometimes, it can't hurt!
SolHarrisJan 10th 2004, 19:19
Jim,
I am English and even though I couldn't care less, I find that offencive!Futurama is doing well over here and many people love it, including me so now I shall take my revenge.Ha!England now has every season of futurama on video and dvd!You in America however don't.Also, you Americans got it cancelled?!How dare you.Well thats my rant of the day over.
SolHarrisJan 10th 2004, 19:24
Also being English,I could find all the english stereotypes and unrealistic accents offensive but I dont!Stupid southerners! It's no big deal! Now everyone will hate you including us foreighners which Ive probably spelt wrongly with crazy passports.
BullseyeJan 10th 2004, 21:17
I'm Irish, but I'm not a heavy beer drinking, leperchuan believing, bald-headed brute. I always laugh when people on TV poke fun of the Irish. I laugh as much as I laugh when other people are made fun of, including people from the South. Even though the article is a satire, what's going to stop people from the South to read that fake article and take the story seriously and try to censor TV, movies that way.
fryfanJan 10th 2004, 21:30
Changing the subject. From what Cartoonnetwork TV schedule has said, Futurama will air Mon-Thurs at 11:30pm. Family Guy will air at 11:00pm. So us fans have to wait an extra 30 minutes to watch good TV. Oh well it will be worth the wait.
TomuseJan 10th 2004, 22:51
Isnt it a crazy world we live in, america takes the piss outta southeners and UK takes the piss outta northeners *whistles thoughtfully and chuckles*
BCstargazerJan 11th 2004, 01:23
speaking of TV schedule change, canada "Teletoon" network ( )starts airing Futurama tonight 7 nights a week at 9 PM et/pt replacing "Family Guy". better late than never i guess for ppl with no access to CN.
FRinGesJan 11th 2004, 09:10
its actulaly only on saterdays and sundays at nine. Not no seven nights a week
amitJan 11th 2004, 14:19
and 31, northerners take the piss out of southerners! - only cos we really are better than you, but anyway, thats not for here. in more ways than one, but thats not for here. and we invented greggs, but thats not for here. (in england, btw)
futuramaMADJan 11th 2004, 16:38
too, right no 34, we northeners are way better than sotherners, we did invent greggs and more. Only english people will know what Im takin about
KazzahdraneJan 11th 2004, 18:43
Untrue! I'm Scottish, and I'm well aware of what Greggs is. Mmmmmm...sandwiches...
GeezJan 11th 2004, 20:46
I keep hearing on this site, "Blame the U.S! They canceled Futurama!" But listen to this, Its an American series and you probably wouldn't have it without us!
GeezJan 11th 2004, 20:52
Not by the creators of this site, but from posters of messages
vvenJan 12th 2004, 04:17
darn the people i was forced to move down and live with.
fryfanJan 12th 2004, 07:17
Guys listen, Futurama can win a TVland award. TVland.com has allows you to come up with your own category and what show should win. Just fill out the their categories and at the end put Best Animated show or whatever and put Futurama. I just did it.
MaggieJan 12th 2004, 09:14
KOTH is funny as shit because there are actually people like that in texas. I'm FROM texas, so I get a lot of the inside jokes.

And Family Guy makes fun of everyone.

ps.
Northerners base southerners on a lot of stereotypes that simply aren't true. Believe me, I've been both a northerner and southerner. I'm willing to bet whoever made that joke is a northerner.
benderfryJan 12th 2004, 12:37
isnt it cool that theres futurama fans from all over the world? Just had to bring that up. I live in Japan by the way
t0mJan 13th 2004, 02:04
Everyone listen to fryfan (#40) I also just went to tvland.com and after voting the first 4 pages Make up a "Best Cartoon Catergory" or something and type futurama as the answer. Maybe if enough of us do this they'll show one of the best episodes ever! I am mainly talking to the people who arent able to stay up late enough to see CNs presentation...
fryfanJan 13th 2004, 05:21
Hey, everybody, I hope you followed my advice (#40) and tom's (#43). I think if all of us can fill out that category and put Futurama as the answer, then TVland won't deny giving mention to Futurama. If they could give a mention to "American Dreams" last year, then we can help to make sure they give mention to Futurama this year.

WE CAN VOTE AS MANY TIMES AS WE WANT!!!!!!!!!!!!!
