Futurama Up for Nebula Award

Another posthumous nomination for Futurama! This time, David A. Goodman's "Where No Fan Has Gone Before" is up to grab the trophy for Best Script in the Science Fiction And Fantasy Writers of America Nebula Award.
The other contenders are Finding Nemo, Minority Report, Spirited Away and The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers.
I think it's save to say that Futurama is posed against a quite competitive field there. It also is the only TV production, which tells you something about either the quality of Futurama's writing or the quality of the heaps and heaps of scripts not nominated

The results will be in on April 17th and announced at the Westin Seattle Hotel, Seattle, WA.

Crikey, up against 3 films? Not sure how it'll fare -- but if it beats LotR, that'll make my day. Good luck to the show!

If it wins, that'd be fantastic... Revenge is bittersweet and I'd love to hear the thudding of heads on tables from the fox executive lounge

Thank frig that Futurama finally gets nominated for an award with not a Simpson competitor in sight. And also, for it to be a TV show nominated against four movies is a feat in itself. I would be very surprised if it won though.

Actually, it's up against four films. But three of 'em are universally hailed as masterpieces! (Guess which one ain't.) Can't really add to what [-mArc-]'s already said: ya gotta kick some serious shiny metal to stand alongside THOSE entries.

Whoa--check out the production sketches for sale at the AdultSwim.com shop! I don't have two hundred bingobucks to drop on a sketch, but they're nice to view...

No offense to Futurama but I think Lotr might beat it.

I can't see WNFHGB winning, but just being the only TV show nominated is great :)

Also, not sure Finding Nemo should really be considered "fantasy"....

KazzahdraneFeb 16th 2004, 19:32

Back on topic, I highly doubt Futurama will win, but it's always nice to dream.
PEELZilchoFeb 16th 2004, 20:18
"And the winner is... The Simpsons, for Three Gays of the Condo!"

Just kidding. I doubt it'll beat LotR, but at least it's in the same category.

there's no way futurama will win, but just being nominated beside such ground breaking films is amazing as it is. I mean, i've never seen minority report or finding nemo, but supposedly theyre ground breaking :p and TTT was just an amazing amazing movie.

Some of these movies are kind of old, how often are these awards?

P.S i dont think futurama will win!
KimberlyFeb 18th 2004, 23:33
perhaps this will wake Fox up and make them admit that they screwed up?

. . . nah, that'll never happen.

Come on of corse futurama will win. The lord of the Rings can't win because Peter Jackson completly slauterd the lord of the ring series. Findig Nemo won't win because it's been done before, it's the same story of a family member finging another family member thats been been done in at least 10 oter movies over the years . Minority Report one woord BORING. I only got the movie because when i rented it i lost it and forgot to retun it to hollywood video for about two months. so they made me buy it. by chance i found it the next day. And finaly Spirited Away makes no sence. Don't get me wrong it's a great movie in its own right about a young girl finding herself but the end makes no sence. it's awfuly convient that out of no ware you find out that haku is really the spiritual represantion of the haku river. So come on futurama is a shoe in it's the only story that makes sence, is orignal, not a trilogy that you half to see the first part to figure out what is going on, it's not boring. It's Futurama come on how can it no win.
