Can't get enough Futurama

Rumours Rumours!

I've been getting many emails from people asking about the Wired Article. We already mentioned this article in a previous post. For the time being there has been no other source confirming a possible comeback of futurama. I hope this post answered some of your questions.

Just read the article, the AUTHOR says that the show is likely to come back, not that it will... though I'm sure it will... someday.
The author is only commenting that the show is doing well and SHOULD have a second chance, but no one high up has said anything about the show actually comming back.
hopefuly that might clearify anything for anyone.
JoeMApr 16th 2004, 00:53
Its just like Family Guy. They got canned on prime time. Then cause of the DVD sales and reruns being run all over tv. Fox has seen that the show is still proffitable. Not that Family Guy will go back with Fox (which is a possibility). I hope Futurama like Family Guy makes a come back. Theres been massive out roar since they canned Futurama. Essays, petitions I amd millions of other people have signed. Its just never ending.
Im a supporter of Futurama since day one when it was first released. I own all 3 Seasons so far. Cant wait for Season 4 to be released in Canada. I have watched them atleast 2 times all the episodes. I watch Family Guy and Futurama every night on Channel 45 (Teletoon) @ 10 - 11pm. I would like to do more but cant think of anything else I can do atm..
Danm999Apr 16th 2004, 01:56
Both shows rock, but as always in Australia are given crappy 10:30 to 11:30 timeslots because our networks are currently bogged down with Simpson reruns, C Grade Gameshows and reality TV. Not only do we have to watch American Idol but Australian Idol is right after it. All the decent shows (Futurama, Family Guy, Buffy, Scrubs) get shafted to so late at night the networks have an excuse to cancel them. At least we have all the DVDs.....
BuzzApr 16th 2004, 02:15
Cartoon Network does the smartest programming, Adult Swim kicks butt. Also as Cartoon Network gets better, Fox gets worse, might wanna keep an eye on that for later.
FRinGesApr 16th 2004, 02:52
Too honour Futurama sinse they never had a finally episode i want to have a contest on who can make the best series finally in comic strip form. please send them to the e-mail above and add ur name so u can get credit.

aslo would CN have to buy Futurama Tm's and (c)'s from Fox? if this does happen, Fox will with out a dout try to get a high cash settlement*.

Does any one know if Cartoon Network and Teletoon are sister companys?

FuturamaussieApr 16th 2004, 04:12
I just hope if there is going to be new episodes of futurama that they are on earlier here in Australia and I agree with Danm999 about the late timeslots and reruns!
serberusApr 16th 2004, 06:11
i would'nt go pulling the stake out of the ground just yet....
WonkymanApr 16th 2004, 07:10
Yes, Cartoon Network and Teletoon are sister companies.

What are you crazy?! Cartoon Network blows Teletoon's head off, and then eats what's left of Teletoon's disembodied carcass. The fact that Teletoon recently picked up Futurama, Family Guy and Home Movies to mimic Adult Swim hardly means they have any relation at all. Adult Swim is run by people who obviously love cartoons, Teletoon is run by monkeys.
JustanAussieApr 16th 2004, 09:09
I Hope Futurama gets more Episodes made so I don't Have to Always get Bored with the old ones
laviApr 16th 2004, 09:13
futurama is one of the best shows i've ever seen
i hope there'll be new episodes out soon
ZoidfanApr 16th 2004, 13:19
Yeah I hope that those idiots at FOX get off their butts and get Futurama back on the air with new episodes!
But i doubt i'll get to see them as in Europe the've dumped Futurama in Sky One's lunchtime slot.
OPRApr 16th 2004, 13:34
I'd absolutely love new episodes too, no matter which network picks them up again. I live in the UK, and despite a few times of which they've screwed up and changed episodes at the last minute, Sky One treats Futurama pretty damn good IMO. Btw, Zoidfan, Sky One wouldn't show new episodes at a lunchtime slot, the old "new episode" slot was at 7pm on a Sunday. At the moment, they're showing reruns pretty often and at reasonable times.
GapingMoronApr 16th 2004, 14:25
So, not only do we get the dagger in the heart (the cancelation), but the sadistic twist of the blade too? (the rumours that always amount to a handful of dust).

It's a hopeful twist... but, dammit universe, stop testing our love!
ALittleBirdApr 16th 2004, 18:32
Futurama will only come back if the money is there. Family Guy is coming back becuse it's being produced as a board show. Which is cheaper for production, since laying out a show in the U.S. is to exspensive right now. Again, if Cartoon Network can afford the million plus per episode price tag for Futurama then it might come back. Until then, enjoy the DVD's.
MufasaCheeseApr 16th 2004, 19:28
Today is my birthday and it is also Billy West Birthday!!!
ZoidbergukApr 16th 2004, 23:45
well luckily over here in the uk we have got all the box sets and sky one is pretty decent with giving us reruns, Ch4 had some on aswell but at 2:00 on a saturday morning
JamesApr 17th 2004, 00:41
Has Matt ever spoken about the cancellations? Can he negotiate with FOX?

MAEApr 17th 2004, 05:33
#3 and anyone else who knows,
Are the "Idol" shows in other countries as popular as American Idol is here in the U.S. (it is currently number one in ratings here)I think thatwhen American finishes the first few shows with the so-bad-its-funny singers that it is one of the stupidest shows out there.

P.S. #20, I know FOX sucks and wouldn't deserve Futurama if it came back, but Cartoon Network can't afford to show Futurama without cutting its production cost and making it not as good as before. Also I think that if any of the other major channels did want to pick up Futurama (though I don't think they would) that they wouldn't get as many viewers because they atract a way different audience than Futurama fans. FOX just needs to bring it back and not screw up its schedule like before.
0101001Apr 17th 2004, 05:38
FOX and American Idol are as gay as Nixorbo!!!
NIxorbo is GAY!!!!

P.S. So is PsycheGuy!!!!!!!!
DrJohnZApr 17th 2004, 06:34
...welcome back 0101001,
well congrads to you, after wasting my time in 'the return of family guy' post, you bring your 'everything is gay' crap over to this one.
by reading all this and stumbling over your name a few times, and wasting my time reading it, I've come to 3 conclusion:
1. your about 8 years old and haven't properly matured yet, so it would be wrong of me to make fun of you.
2: your a loser who sits on his computer all day, you've discovered a new attraction to the same sex and try to deny it, so you spout off and call other people gay.
or 3: your about 35 or older, you live in your parents basement, and you've never gathered the courage to ask someone out on a date.
so after you read this you'll probibly post that now I'm gay too, but this post will be worth it
JamesApr 17th 2004, 08:29

fucking fox took my futurama away!! The least they could do is a final episode. I need closure dammit.
AllyDApr 17th 2004, 09:54
Yeah we all need closure!!
Seriously tho i just got futurama season 4 and am lovin it!!
Can't someone do something to make futurama come back. Damn fox network.
swkotorApr 17th 2004, 11:36
unfortunately the idol shows are popular in Australia too.
Futurama rules, I own all 4 seasons on DVD, wierd that its released here before the states.
Anyway I have to say that Family guy is the funniest show on TV.
bigphilApr 17th 2004, 16:38
the 'idol' format is huge in the uk, where simon cowells mighty high waistband first stood astride the world. as well as 2 series of pop idol and pop stars: the rivals we've had a huge huge rash of spin offs, the latest being political idol, an entirely pointless show where people compete to stand in any seat in the next uk general election. (pointless because british subject over 21 is eligible to stand in any seat anyway)
CynApr 17th 2004, 20:33
We have had closure for the show. And there was an actually finale. The final ep was written to be a series or season finale, since they knew they might not be coming back.
kinglion86Apr 17th 2004, 21:39
I had a great idea for a series finale. Jesus comes back (looking a lot like Zoidberg from A Tale of Two Santa's) and says the world will end in three days. Those that will survive will have to say what good they have done with their lives. Can you picture an hour of the Plante Express crew's past highlights trying to state their case for living? Come to think of it, you might need more than an hour, Bender alone would at least take an hour!
hoseheadApr 18th 2004, 08:32
I've had a thought, well the probable reason that CN or Fox is going after family guy and not futurama is the cost. Futurama has to be the most expensive cartoon on television, much more expensive then family guy. so what if instead of fox doing an entire season, they do 1 hour specials, like 3 or 4 times a year. it seems like it would please everyone, fans would get more futurama, matt groening would get a chance to continue the series, and fox would be without the risk and large budget of a full 26 episode season and be able to release more dvds, which we the fans would obviously buy. it seems like a simple solution that would please everyone, and be easy money for fox. whatcha think?
apexApr 18th 2004, 23:40
That could work, but maybe we can just forget about FOX and CN (adult swim) could just wait till they make more money off Family Guy and other cartoons then just run new Futurama's themselves... whoever gets Futurama will make a bundle, might as well be CN
JoeMApr 19th 2004, 18:13
I agree with apex 100% Fox doesnt deserve such a good show as Futurama.
One thing that gives me hope of the return of Futurama is that in the "Fox Vault" of previous shows that Fox has cancelled they do not list Futurama. But they do list Family Guy. Heres the link
bigphilApr 19th 2004, 19:10
can we start a petetion to get rupert murdoch to stop badgering tony blair about bloody eu constitutions and start making decent tv programs. (sad but true, the man spends more time interfering in british politics, where he pays no tax than he does on news corp
dutchboonApr 19th 2004, 19:14
Idols is doing its second season here in the netherlands and is, if possible, even more popular than the first season :(.
spacemanspiffApr 19th 2004, 22:39
please do not hold me to any of this as i have only heard it from other people.
Matt G, owns futurama, fox does not have the rights to it. if this is true then he just needs a studio to pay for it and a channel to air it. my very much in the know friend told me that
and
Fox does not buy shows one at a time they produce entire seasons or 13 shows then decide if they are going to air it. a former fox employee told me that.
again this could be totally worng it is just what i heard. as Dr. Peter Venkman 'heard' about Walter Peck.
at any rate Futurama needs more shows damn it!

spacemanspiffApr 19th 2004, 22:59
just looked at tv tome

they say fox does in fact own futurama on the fact page. who knows. so my other theory may be blow the hell too.
ThomasJKruseApr 20th 2004, 07:37
If fox owns Futurama we are royally boned
BendItLikeBenderApr 20th 2004, 10:35
I agree, futurama is awesome... but complaining in a post isn't gonna bring it back. Get off ur lazy arses and do sumthin about it, so i can sit lazily at home with some new episodes to watch.
And remember "DO A FLIP!!!!"
spacemanspiffApr 20th 2004, 16:16
you know star trek was on for 3 years canceled and came back. just write a letter a week to fox. like mr. roberts or andy dufresne. i also found another reference to stating the fact that fox does own futurama, i believe it was on peel
bigphilApr 20th 2004, 18:57
matt g retained complete creative control, but i think fox owns the tm

to #49: Actually, the Simpsons is the most expensive.
spacemanspiffApr 21st 2004, 23:18
did the simpsons cast go on strike recently? that would cost to get them back. the simpsons dvd said it costs about a or over million to produce a show too. i suspect that futurama costs are high due to: the cast. billy west, john d and katie s. are not new to the biz and the 3d animation dept can eat budget too. to get high quality 3d for broadcast more than likely takes alot of time to model and c. a powerful computer(s) to render. not to mention producers, matt g. and other talent. ok the wrting staff too. "they're the brains sweetheart!".
apexApr 21st 2004, 23:59
im sure the cost doesent have anything to do with futurama being cancelled or why it is be hesitant to come back. Fox never did like Futurama in the first place, if you listen to the commentary of the first episodes Matt G. admits it himself, the reason CN can't make new ep's is because FOX still has the rights to Futurama
MAEApr 22nd 2004, 00:36
Does the cost that yall are talking about include paying the cast? I also read somewere that the simpson's cast was going on strike but with the salary it said they are already recieving seems like it would cost much more than a million dollars per episode after paying them.
apexApr 22nd 2004, 06:12
I guess that could be a problem, you could go to Billy West's website and ask about that if you really wanna know
BruceApr 22nd 2004, 07:23
To me it doesnt make any sence. Fox hated Futurama, yet they owm the rights to the product and they arent allowing Matt G to create more shows but they still allowed him to reduce the series to comic books, toys, video games, etc. Shure, both the comics and games rock but peronaly to me, Matt should just continue to create more shows of Futurama. Even if he would get sued for it. Also, I tried to find the Futurama game at Eb games, but they arent selling it due to the fact that any product that is made from Fox interactive (Futurama, Simpsons hit and run, Dark angel) is going to either slow or stop in production because the games that I said above are becoming too popular to even sell. I don't want to be a racist, but I never understand Americans and they are either stupid or fat headed. And just to tell you Im Canadian.
apexApr 22nd 2004, 07:49
common stereotypes... don't get me started on Canada =P (JK if ya get offended)... but the reason Fox is keeping the rights is to make all the money they can off it and then sell it WAY high once the sales go down... Its all about money...
tylerApr 23rd 2004, 05:10
Exactly. Fox doensn't give a rats ass about the show. Its all about the money. MONEY MONEY MONEY.
spacemanspiffApr 23rd 2004, 15:58
i worked for a major record company once, i asked one day why we did not sell anything good? the response was if you want to care about music and only produce good quality music then i was worked for the wrong company. welcome to show biz. now i work with salesmen, no i am not one but they are all the same. cheats and liars who would sell out anything to get ahead.
FOX DAMN YOU BRING BACK FUTURAMA OR LET SOMEONE ELSE WHO CARES DO IT. DAMN YOU ALL TO HELL! and while you are at it stop george lucas.
mikeyApr 24th 2004, 02:47
i havent read most of these posts but what about if matt groening sed if you dont air futurama anymore i wont make simpsons anymore simple as that
johanleyApr 24th 2004, 03:32
I don't think Matt would do that.

$$$

All humans have a soft spot for it, even him, I'm guessing. The key is to wrestle the rights away from Fox. Then, I would take 7 or 8 high quality episodes a year (which is what we were getting later on anyway). Or if the writing or voice talent didn't take a hit, I would accept lesser animation (which is just icing on the cake to me).
bigphilApr 24th 2004, 20:05
i think matt has basically completely sold the simpsons to fox. whilst he reamins in the titles he cannot prevent fox making it. we could always e-mail roman abramovich and get him to buy the rights from fox

did not read the whole post but saw the question about why futurama is so expensiv....i can explain a bit but are not 100 % sure ....if u compare futurama wit say family guy then u see that futurama has a much better picture quality and higher animation rate and more details + in futurama they using 3d models sometimes and it requires much staff to do so .
philApr 26th 2004, 19:23
also i think fox only owns the futurama name and logo. there have been other examples where characters not copyrighted have been used in other shows or media
JohnApr 26th 2004, 23:09
I don't know if this affects futurama. Fox has picked up family guy and will start airing new episodes at the end of 2004. So I like many others are praying that fox also picks up futurama for a few new seasons.
DrJohnZApr 27th 2004, 03:54
oh, so FOX is bringing it back?... The small light of hope for Futurama's revival just got a little bigger... FOX is big, and could afford both shows if they wanted.

Guys guys need help ...iam my english is bad so i have i important question ...is futurama cancelled permanently or wil it come back soon with new episodes??
SRMApr 30th 2004, 22:11
You know, with the future of the Simpson's now in Jeopardy due to the actor's strike maybe Fox will have to revive Futurama. In USA Today they mentioned that Fox would have to start the Simpsons in mid-November and would only have about 15 unaired episodes. After that they speculated that they would fill the time with crap like American Idle (not misspelled), or 70's Show (which is aged but not as bad). Hey, how about reviving Futurama in that timeslot???

Who am I kidding? Fox doesn't have the brains to do that. If they are the ones reviving Family Guy, I doubt they would even be bright enough to use them to fill the time slot.
BratoApr 30th 2004, 22:46

how does it cost a million dollars to make an episode of futurama?
uriahMay 4th 2004, 04:46
oh i guess that was already answered and to make another point it would take more time than between now and november to get everybody back to futurama and get another season on the way. family guy isn't set to come back till summer 05.
gfhMay 5th 2004, 03:52
no end and no begining ur hear with me
DuffManMay 10th 2004, 03:48
I'm hearing a lot of FOX bashing in this forum, and while it is unjust for them to kill Futurama in its prime, at least they brought it to us in the first place. The same with Simpsons and Family Guy; without FOX we wouldn't have had any of them. Also, saying how much they suck isn't going to do anything anyways. They are a huge company trying to stay competitive, and all huge companies suck in some way or another, and if you get all worked up about them, then nothing positive comes out.
Oh and BTW, "0101001" doesn't mean anything, a byte of binary has 8 ones or zeroes not 7
mixMay 12th 2004, 16:04
if you are really a fan of Futurama you should be writing letters to fox and M.G. to let them know about the extent of the fans that they pissed off!

NamelessJul 22nd 2004, 18:57
Look,

I'm a big time futurama fan too, was glued to it from the first episode... the truth is fox was so messed up with their scheduling time, and between that and work, I didn't see much futurama. Talking about it won't bring it back... the only thing you can do is continue to watch and buy the dvd's... and then maybe the show will make a return as we'd all love to see. If people remain loyal to the show and support it... heck, it's been a few years since the show was cancelled and it continues to garner this kind of support. If, if it never does come back, it will be a shame, for it was definately a show that died well, well before its time, but there's nothing we can do but watch, and hope. It's in the hands of Fox ultimately....
ShaunAug 13th 2004, 18:57
First off, check out my e-mail. Anyone impressed/think it's cool? Anyone? No? Okay, moving right along. It sems like people are just looking for rumors/complaining/buying DVDs here. Doesn't anyone think that we can do what Star Trek fans did? If we start combining all of the Futurama fan sites to some degree, we can help bring it back. It's much more impressive to have 1 site with 1000 than 10 sites with 100. With that said, I would recommend that we make a site that has links to the rest of them, and whose sole purpose is to help organize support for bringing back Futurama. To begin with, we simply make a list of everyone who supports it and do petiotion drives, etc. Failing that, we can move forward united and work to bring it back. If anyone read this, you can e-mail me. I doubt anyone will, but if they don't, they can kiss my shiny metal ass.
