Can't get enough Futurama
In Color

FOX mentions Futurama

From the newly released NewsCorp quartly earnings report for the period ending March 31st:
Twentieth Century Fox Television (TCFTV) profits continued to expand, primarily reflecting sustained momentum in home entertainment sales, most notably from Angel, Futurama, Family Guy and 24.
In total all of NewsCorp had a net profit increase of 69% to $465.000.000. They sadly don't give numbers regarding the DVD sales but for some reason, the two non-cancelled animated shows got no mention. A quick check on amazon shows that King of the Hill has abysmal sales and Futurama beats The Simpsons on a season by season comparision. Keep in mind that The Simpsons' releases are about a year older. Family Guy again beats them all.

Well, more good news... but will it be enough? Phase one of our ridculously circuitous plan is complete... FOX is admiting that Futurama is making them money....
nerdlingusMay 6th 2004, 16:03
Yep, about time too, now to wait for more rumors from the mill....
ScottOMay 6th 2004, 16:11
I try and try to like Family Guy, I just can't. Two or three times a week on Adult Swim I tune in and I just don't get it.
Crash7May 6th 2004, 16:35
I would like to see new Futuramas and Family Guy's back to back on Fox right after the Simpsons. They could call it their "We Screwed UP" hour.
forgottheboneitusMay 6th 2004, 16:48
Well thats proof straight from the horses mouth. Futurama and family guy are top retail sellers for fox not just gloabally but worldwide. Though we all already knew this cos we're all smarter than the board of executives (trained monkeys) at Fox. Why can't they just swallow their pride and comission more episodes. They've done it for Family Guy why not our beloved Futurama. Go on Fox, dont be shy, give it a try! It makes both rating and financial sence.
nerdlingusMay 6th 2004, 16:51
...not just gloabally but worldwide....we're all smarter than the board of execs...
Yeah, realll smart... ;)
forgottheboneitusMay 6th 2004, 16:54
Sorry my bad i meant to say both stateside and gloabally. Though i do mean the bad spelling. Not out of choice its just that im a bit stupid. Hey mabye that means i can be a Fox execuitive.
spacemanspiffMay 6th 2004, 17:36
if it does come back ( please oh please fox ) i hope they don't mess with the title. If they do it has to be MUCH smarter than:

Futurama: The Next Generation
Futurama: The Future
Futurama: Futuramarama

Remember when Buck Rogers was on the planet for a few seasons then He was on the Ship? ( or the other way around ) what the heck was that all about?

FOX there is still good in you, I can feel it. let go of your hate!

BRING BACK FUTURAMA YOU MONEY SUCKING SOULESS MONKEYS!
DrJohnZMay 6th 2004, 20:20
Family Guy is good, but not that good, it just has pointless humor, at least Futurama has everything else better
BrainSluggoMay 6th 2004, 20:30
You guys know Al Gore bought a TV network, right?
johanleyMay 6th 2004, 21:49
Wow... FOX acknowledging Futurama's existence. That hasn't happened in a long time.
ScottOMay 6th 2004, 21:53
I give Al Gore's TV network 6 months. He probably won't be able to pay the bills like the liberal radio network... funny, funny stuff.
KevinMay 6th 2004, 22:05
Fox have cancelled Angel as well. So three of their four top sellers are now cancelled??? Their profits next year should be up 100%! Good business is where you find it... maybe Fox could treble their profits by cancelling all their shows?
You know how sometimes sarcasm is hard to spot in email? hopefully not too hard in this one ;)
alapaloozaMay 6th 2004, 22:39
"we're all smarter than the board of executives (trained monkeys) at Fox"
i am sorry, you are incorrect, fox is not a bunch of trained monkeys, they are regular monkeys, not trained at all
benderfryMay 7th 2004, 01:55
more and more chance of a revival.
[Zapp] Here's hoping! [/Zapp]
DoranMay 7th 2004, 05:12
Brain brought up Al Gore because his daughter worked on Futurama and he appeared on it...more than once.
forgottheboneitusMay 7th 2004, 09:34
#14
I stand corrected. Though regular monkeys not employed by Fox proably still have a better sence about which shows to cancel and which shows should live on. BRING BACK FUTURAMA
BrainSluggoMay 7th 2004, 10:25
That's funny: I give the Bush Idiocy six more months. Tragic, tragic stuff. But ScottO can stuff his head back up the dirty anus known as NewsMax and pretend it isn't happening. La la.
Billyboy418May 7th 2004, 10:31
Angel rocks, Futurama rocks, Family Guy rocks, three of my favourite shows. All dying at the hands of TV executives who know nothing. SO sad
JickleMay 7th 2004, 14:28
You know what would suck? If after all this, a new season of Futurama DOES get made and it really, really sucks :p .
AndrewMay 7th 2004, 19:37
i now fox said they did not like futurama but what do we care we love it i also want to now how they could take it off the air it was just like x files but not as good cos x files were boring but futurama is like modern life but inh the future and i now fox does not care but we miss futurama well i do i want to now what happens to fry cos he is cool like bender and oh hell lets just all tell them to make sorry start futurama again and matt g shipmsons suck now dont you now
aplanetthatididntmakeupMay 8th 2004, 04:03
Well if futurama is doing well in DVD sales then you never know. Family guy is comming back to CN so will Futurama. And make it all bender all the time damn it.
AllyDMay 8th 2004, 10:16
bringbackF ... acFUTURAMA

I live in Australia and don't know much bout ur American telivision but FOX sux. Seriously don't they know a good thing wen they've got it. Also i like family guy. Is there like a petition we can sign to get our fav show back??
JerecMay 8th 2004, 11:04
I love the X-Files, and I don't see a problem that it finished. It ran a full 9 seasons, with 200 episodes, and it was starting to dip in the last two seasons.
johanleyMay 8th 2004, 15:23
Yeah, but personally, I felt that Futurama showed no signs of slowing down, and the crew was obviously still enthusiastic. Although if it truly is over, that's not too bad. 72 episodes still is nothing to scoff at, and the series ended on a perfect note anyway.
ChrisTheWilsonMay 8th 2004, 17:04
Family Guy is seriously funny, however I will always rather see Futurama come back for the reason that not only is it funny and intelligent, I don't have to play guess the reference...

Oh wait.. CHLORINE! *Rusts up and falls to ground*
andrewMay 8th 2004, 19:14
all thourght a lot of us miss futurama its not going to bring it back and unfocanly i dont think fox like it any way
FRinGesMay 8th 2004, 19:47

SteveMay 8th 2004, 22:14
Jeez, I hope they don't have the same plan for my favorite non-futurama show, Arrested Development.
SpecilAMay 8th 2004, 22:37
we all need to take action to fox email them and tell them to put futurama back on i love futurama when i founed out they were not makeing any more i was upset and started to cry not realy but iwas upset and fox wont replay to emails so we wont now what they think and now i am pissed of at the world aghhhhh
monkiesMay 9th 2004, 03:12
#20, You know what wouldn't suck? If you died, it wouldn't suck at all. :p

I'm kidding, bur you're in stupid land if you think that Futurama would actually suck if it came back.
NeoxenokMay 9th 2004, 07:24
I can't say that I'm surprised that Futurama is doing well. Of course, I don't think anyone else here is either.
However, I sincerely hope that FOX does the smart thing and bring their -good- shows back before FOX totally degenerates into a total, reality nightmare. Ick... I can't stand it anymore.
TnidMay 9th 2004, 14:58
I hope that Fox will simply free futurama, so that other networks could buy the rights...
Even if Fox do order more episodes, there is no guarantee that Fox wouldn't treat Futurama the same way, and cancell it after 1 or 2 seasons.
Maybe instead of that petition to mmake Fox return Futurama, we should have made a petition to made Fox stop holding the rights to Futurama without making new episodes...
OctavianMay 9th 2004, 22:54
I just, in a fit of boredom and lethargy, watched the whole series. A show this good should definitely get more coverage, although I'm not entirely sure it won't jump the shark after the last episode. you never know.

Oh, and if you don't know why you don't like it, it might be because you haven't seen the first episode, or you might just not get the humor. But whatever, this is really good news.
darkflameMay 9th 2004, 23:09
+ 2 years =

That worked.
Why not

With enough dedication fans can bring a series back, even if its just in a limited form.
It does take a lot of effort though, and very dedicated fans :)

Oh, this stupid censoring system can kiss my shiny organic arse.
I only meant to put a quick comment to say that "3W'S SAVEFARSCAPE DOT COM" got their series reserected.
And that purhapes a simerlar thing could be used to save futurama.
ornitierMay 10th 2004, 01:49
Actually about Angel, that was cancelled by another network of morons though both series did end a bit early...

I'm curious though, are the DVD people at Fox/20th Century the same as the network people and/or as the creative production people? Newscorp's different factions are nearly notoriously bad at working with each other.
KazzahdraneMay 10th 2004, 19:27
#39, AFAIK, FOX Home Entertainment are the "DVD people" and have little or no input with the idiot network execubots. Rather, FOX HE have shown themselves to be very on the ball in terms of making sure the DVD boxsets are loaded with extras, and supplying copies as prizes for various competitions across the world (including here on CGEF more than once I believe).
ZeverkenMay 11th 2004, 16:22
Maybe we should start a new petition to bring back futurama so that the people at Fox can see that so many months after the last episode people still want to see more futurama...
SteveMay 11th 2004, 23:27
Who wants to bet that "Devils Hands" wins an Emmy. Its not like "The Simpsons" has shown us anything worthwhile this season. I could be at peace if "Futurama" won one last time, and hopefully "King of the Hill" will win if it doesn't (Honestly, KotH gets very little credit for the consistency they've shown for 8 seasons)
gottalovebenderMay 13th 2004, 02:16
to zeverken, there is a petition, fox has ignored it, and steve, futurama better win an emmy, it rocks
purplemonkeydishwasherMay 13th 2004, 07:28
is there goin to be an update soon?
kiffanMay 13th 2004, 18:43
I don't think we should get our hopes up. If the rumrs don't pan out, the ain will be even worse. Go to if you realy want to help.
ChrisDMay 14th 2004, 19:49
There's a new article up on the Christian Science Monitor's website about how the network stations, especially FOX, are looking for animated shows to fill their prime time slots (I'd paste a link to the story, but GotFuturama always blocks them from being posted).

Anyway, some of the new cartoons coming to FOX include "American Dad" created by Seth MacFarlane (who I believe created "Family Guy", and who does the voice of Peter and Stewie Griffin), about "a suburban CIA employee who is on constant alert for terrorist activity", "The Phil Hendrie Show" (Phil Hendrie is a radio host, who I believe does the voices for the characters in the Waterfall family on Futurama), "based on the nationally syndicated radio program, about the married life of a once-notorious bachelor", as well as "The Boondocks", based on the left-wing comic strip (so much for trying to blame the cancelling of Futurama on the Vast Right-Wing Conspiracy(TM) at FOX).

So, a bunch of networks and cable stations are apparently trying to get in on prime time animation. The article never mentions "Futurama" by name, so I wouldn't suggest getting your hopes up, but this is a definite step in the right direction.

Now when is the Season 4 DVD hitting the States already?
Crash7May 15th 2004, 00:27
ChrisD:
August, supposedly.
ChrisDMay 15th 2004, 03:54
Thanks, Crash.
IluvfuturamaMay 17th 2004, 07:35
We need to bombard Fox and Matt Groening with email requests to bring back Futurama!!!! Even if they only do it to sell more DVDs.

BRING FUTURAMA BACK!!!!!
SlackJawedMoronMay 17th 2004, 08:11
Please don't bombard Matt + co with anything. If you think they haven't done (and indeed, aren't doing) all they can to save the show, you're kiding yourself. Feel free to spam Fox though. Not 'cause I expect you to acheive anything, but because they should be annoyed (punish THEM!)
fydiousMay 17th 2004, 08:46
family guy is horrible. i don't see why people like it other than it caters to the mass of idiots in the world.
ChrisDMay 17th 2004, 15:25
David Cohen said in an interview that it would be more effective to send FOX actual, physical letters than e-mails.
BenderRulesMay 18th 2004, 11:53
Man, what is wrong with these networks? They cancel all of the GREAT (not good, GREAT) shows. Angel (TV masterpiece) is now gone. Easily the best show on TV right now. At least Family Guy is coming back. I can only hope Futurama will return too (and hopefully someone will pick up and Angel spinoff starring Spike, Illyria and some other Angel characters.).
SRMMay 19th 2004, 17:21
#42-KOTH has gotten all the credit for the consistency they've shown. The problem is they've been consistantly crappy! The fact that Fox keeps that show in the air shows that they have no idea what quality programming is.

Futurama Lives!
stevehosMay 20th 2004, 15:34
And it looks like Family Guy is back in production, let's hope Futurama is next.

From Wil Weaton's website:

"Voice Over Excitement: Yesterday, I had the coolest VO audition of my life . . . for Family Guy! They are looking for "utility players," and I got to go read about 12 different characters for them. If I book it, it will be a bigger deal to me than when I booked Next Generation. I did a pretty good job, I think. I didn't "hear myself" in several of the characters I did, and I think my obsessive watching of the show on Adult Swim and on DVD helped me out, because I know what types of characters they have -- I was able to go "bigger" than I normally would if I didn't know the show so well."
AndyMay 20th 2004, 23:38
FROM THE DESK OF A FOX BOARD OF EXECUTIVES:

Cancel the SIMPSONS . . . (blank)
Bring back FAMILY GUY . . . (check)
Bring back FUTURAMA . . . (blank)<---WTF!?-
Show we are stupid . . . (double check!)
AndyMay 20th 2004, 23:41
NUMBER ONE REASON WHY PETITION HAS NOT BE NOTICED BY FOX:

It has 171 signatures.

FILL ER' UP!
KazzahdraneMay 21st 2004, 08:22
The original petition had 150,000 signatures, and got a fair amount of publicity. Another one wouldn't change their minds.
kawasaki490May 21st 2004, 16:28
Why dosnt someone ask matt groeing if he is going to come out with some new episodes like a fifth season that should but dosnt have to be shown of the air this would be real nice.
AndyMay 21st 2004, 23:42
The only petition I saw had 173 signatures.

There are almost 300 million people in the USA alone.

150,000 signatures isnt going to change their mind.

mememeMay 22nd 2004, 01:15
bring futurama back cause all gthe other xshows are half as good as it

by the way good website
seadawg123Jun 11th 2004, 04:00
Start a new trend ask people who love the show to become a sponsor. I would be happy to pay a small monthly fee to keep my beloved futurama cast on the air. Think about it. You could start a new way of sponsoreing shows.
EoNJun 12th 2004, 05:55
I dont find Family Guy even slightly amusing.

Futurama is in a league of its own. It is a great shame it was cancelled. I think FOX should be ashamed of themselves. Filthy beasts.
EoNJun 12th 2004, 06:01
I find it highly disturbing that there are Futurama fans out there who also watch Angel & "The Family Guy".

For anybody to have the sort of sense of humour to find The Family Guy funny, I can only assume they dont appreciate Futurama on the same level as DIEHARD fans do. Nothing comes close to Futurama or Simpsons.
BenderRulesJul 3rd 2004, 16:07
EoN that's YOUR opinion. I find it disturubing that your devotion to Groening blinds your view of other quality shows.

Futurama friggin rules, but Family Guy is funny too. You do know that you can like more than one show, right? Just because I love the Simpsons and Futurama it doesn't mean that I have to hate Family Guy. I liked Simpsons and Futurama before I ever even saw Family Guy. Family Guy is a laugh riot though.

Angel, on the other hand, is a truly epic show about a vampire with a soul (darker spinoff of Buffy). It has a great cast of characters and superb writing (was recently advertised as "The Smartest Show on TV"). Only fans who watched from the beggining could understand it's greatness. It's absolutely nothing like Simpsons, Family Guy or Futurama, but it's a fantastic show with the perfecet blend of horror/comedy/drama/action/heart.

Check out the new poll on which show you want to see pull a "Family Guy" and return and you will see Angel well in the lead over Futurama and about 5 other shows.

Check out this Top 5 Shows of All Time poll and Angel is in the lead here too.

Also, EOnline had a poll to save one of seven shows. Angel wiped them all out receiving 85% of the votes cast by over 400,000 people. Over 5X the amount of votes recieved for all the other 6 shows combined.
