Katey Sagal's latest CD

Katey Sagal, the beloved voice of Leela, will be releasing her second pop album June 1st. There aren't any samples of the album online at this moment, but it can be pre-ordered at amazon.com for $16.98. There's an article about Katey, the new album, and her past at NY Daily News. Here's a tidbit from it:

Sagal, a singer for 30 years, releases her second album, "Room," a collection of pop originals and classics, on June 1.

[...] "When I made my first record, in '94, it was harder for people to see me in a different way because I was ensconced in Peg's red wig," says Sagal, 50, who played shoe salesman Al Bundy's wife for more than a decade on the raunchy sitcom.
Thanks to Venus for pointing this out to us.

I think it's apparent in "The Devil's Hands.." that she has a professional quality singing voice.

She actually toured with several famous acts as a backing singer. Including Bob Dylan!

She sang quite a few times on "Married...With Children," but usually she had make herself sound horrid...I think she fared much better in "Futurama" (the Xmas eps, going down the slide in "Hell Is Other Robots," etc).

It wasn't really until the 80s that Katey seriously pursued an acting career...Before that she was trying to make it in the music biz (she was in an unsuccessful band, sang backup for Bette Midler, etc). Her first album in 1994 pretty much bombed (but hey, it was released at the height of MWC's popularity, no one could see her past Peg Bundy).

I too am slightly miffed that the article did not mention "Futurama." Then again, Katey herself hasn't talked about it that much, has she??

Being a big fan of "Married with Children", I never really thought Katey Segal had what it takes to make an album, but I am eager to hear how it sounds.

I remember they showed a clip of a music video from Katey Sagal's first album in a "Celebrity Profile" special. Not my kind of music, but it wasn't horrible or anything...

Also, if you watch the 1990 movie "Loose Cannons" (starring Gene Hackman/Dan Aykroyd), that's Katey who sings the theme over the end credits.

Play her record backwards and you'll get sinister anti-FOX messages...

Has Katey ever given her thoughts on Futurama and whether she liked the work or not? The other cast members seem quite outspoken in comparison.

She has, though not as much as some. I believe in an interview, someone brought out a Leela doll, and she said something like, "I love Leela! She's so funny!" (Don't ask me where to find that, as I forgot). So presumably she has some affection for the show (or at least for her character).

Interesting, Katey has been married and divorced more times than Leela has.
