Can't get enough Futurama

Simpsons: The Season Finale

The New York times posted a rather elaborate story about the Simpsons' season finale. This being a futurama site, you might ask: "What does this have to do with Futurama?". The following quote will tell you that:
The jokes are rapid-fire and random: Brockman says the rock "will soon be more than just a place for teens to have sex and commit suicide," and the scene cuts to a teenager jumping off, asking, "Why did they cancel `Futurama?' "

all I can say is as long as this kind of exposure keeps up, futurama has a chance.
billyboy418May 23rd 2004, 11:12
Silly, silly FOX, why do they let things like that pass?
LittleJimmyMay 23rd 2004, 11:30
Hey... How did they get that footage of me...?
KazzahdraneMay 23rd 2004, 18:28
I've started to get the impression that the Simpsons writers really like Futurama, and are pretty mad at FOX for cancelling it.

Of course, many of the Futurama staff previously worked on The Simpsons, and visa-versa I believe.
johanleyMay 23rd 2004, 19:07
You know, I'd be perfectly happy if FOX could just admitted they cancelled it and why, rather than bury it and hope everyone would forget about it. Good thing they can't stop the Simpsons from tossing in little wisecracks like that.
BrianTurner12May 24th 2004, 03:48
I agree with johanley, why can't they just come out and say why they canceled it?
KimberlyMay 24th 2004, 04:03
What, corporate executives admit to making a mistake? Surely you jest.

FOX (Murdoch in particular), YOU SUCK!
snidermanMay 24th 2004, 06:00
If I may be a bit of a geek: According to Groening, "Futurama" takes place in the "real world," whereas "THe Simpsons" takes place in the comic/cartoon world. In other words, the gang from Futurama could/would be able to watch The Simpsons on TV, and not the other way around. (In fact, the Futurama/Simpsons Comic Crossover made this a major plot point, by having the "real" Futurama gang getting sucked into the "cartoon" world of The Simpsons.)

That said, how could a SIMPSONS character lament the cancelation of FUTURAMA? Makes the head spin, eh?
HyperChickenMay 24th 2004, 07:51
The writers made the joke just to tinker with your mind, #8. It's the Groening Paradox ;)
daveMay 24th 2004, 14:58
dont hold your breath... fox might censor it... ;)
chumpbenderMay 24th 2004, 23:27
So what happened to the Matt Groening rare television appearance? I was so excited and it didn
yancyMay 24th 2004, 23:31
sniderman-

what about the recent Simpsons episode (in which a disgruntled Skinner watches as Krabapple and Comic Book Guy hook up) where Matt Groening is at a sci-fi convention and Milhouse asks him to autograph his Bender doll? This would suggest that Futurama is a fiction for the Simpson world.
Crash7May 25th 2004, 00:25
...and vice-versa.
AkbarMay 25th 2004, 00:33
I'll have to second what #11 said. I thought Groening was going to introduce one of his favorite Futurama episodes last night, and it didn't happen. What gives?
SlackJawedMoronMay 25th 2004, 02:51
What gives is that the date for Matt's appearence has been pushed back, to sometime in July, I think. I guess you'll have to wait some more...
Crash7May 25th 2004, 04:23
There were some none too happy folks on the Adult Swim forums over that, too. I was one of them.
UKFUTURAMAFANMay 25th 2004, 19:34
Just thought I would let al the UK futurama fans that all Futurama dvd box sets are now being sold at HMV for
KazzahdraneMay 25th 2004, 19:44
I think they are
ianMay 26th 2004, 04:38
fox would rather put on a reality show cause they dont cost much and futurama cost A LOT :(
BrainSluggoMay 26th 2004, 05:07
Plus, a relative of Al Gore worked on the show. Big no-no for Rupert's network. All who defy the New Empire of the Master Race must be punished, you know...they, and their children...
chumpbenderMay 27th 2004, 00:38
unrelated, but futurama comics #17 is out today.
CSPTVCRITICMay 27th 2004, 01:49
I laughed my ass off when I saw this joke the show. The episode did a great job poking fun at media empires. Great way to end a good season.

Makes me upset that FOX will only bring back FAMILY GUY to the network next year, instead of both FAMILY GUY and FUTURAMA.
dvdashotMay 27th 2004, 06:41
Sure, they could be poking fun at FOX. Sure, they could be saying they haven't forgotten about Futurama. Or maybe... they're just making fun of us. Could be.
TickerTockerMay 27th 2004, 09:41
Perhaps Rupert will have a heart attack and die!

then...

Futurama... Time to Stage a comeback!
NeroMay 27th 2004, 13:02
I saw this episode. Was really funny when the guy screamed that.

I've seen more Futurama connections recently, one time they were at a comic convention, and there was Matt Groening and someone (can't remember who it was) came and wanted him to sign his Bender toy.. :)
SrussellNMay 27th 2004, 21:39
How come no one has mentioned the latest comic book to grace our store shelves. Its like having another episode. Go buy it!
alexMay 29th 2004, 04:33
what the hell is wrong with fox! Why would they cancel a show as good as futurama!?! Do you know if there's a petition to get it back on the air?
Alex age 10

SilentGregMay 29th 2004, 06:20
I wonder if American Dad and Family Guy would cross-over. If they do, will it be something like what Futurama and The Simpsons have or will it be like the time Jay Sherman show up on The Simpsons. Now there's something to think about besides bitching about Fox all the time.
Zer0May 31st 2004, 17:09
simpsons are geting boaring they shold cancel that and put futurama back on.
JohnPannozziJun 1st 2004, 18:37
I saw that Simpsons ep. and thought that Futurama ref. was the funniest part of the show. Gives me hope that Fry, Leela, Bender, Zoidberg, Amy, Kif, Zapp and the rest of the Futurama gang will come back to film someday.
kiffanJun 2nd 2004, 02:35
three points: I think that the reference was making fun of us nuts ;). also, my theory is that FOX caneled the show for the demografics. they had 2 cartoon sit-coms that apeeled to the 20somthing crowd, so they dumped the younger, less populer one and replased it with the baby boomer nastalga-fest show Oliver Bean. Only, suprise suprise! Boomers hate that show too, because it sucks! Lastly, DUH there is a petition!
zebJun 4th 2004, 18:48
Foz is bringing back Family Guy? I thought Cartoon Network was.
BobJun 8th 2004, 13:52
What i don't understand is ,if fox cancelled the show, why doesn't the the futurama team find another place to air (or ere?) their show , i don't think "the simpsons" is going to be around forever, and the only show that can compete is "futurama" (and it only has 5 seasons).
We're just asking for a great show to come back!
PaintoJun 9th 2004, 01:07
FOX: sux
knowsfordsJun 9th 2004, 09:26
futurama only had four seasons bob, fox being the dicks they are stretched them out to reidiculous proportions
JerryPJun 9th 2004, 20:23
zeb: Fox own Family Guy, so they have the option to air the new episodes first. If they don't want to, then they'll probably go straight to Cartoon Network.

Bob: Futurama IS aired on another network, but to have new episodes made would cost more than most networks would want to gamble. Plus, like with Family Guy, they would still have to make a deal with Fox since Fox owns Futurama.

does anyone know if they are bringing out a combined dvd set with all the seasons like they did for family guy.
BrayJun 18th 2004, 04:06
...maybe they're following the Slurm Queen's theory. Cancel the show for a year or two, leave lots of little clues and reminders all over the place, and then bring it back and it'll be more popular than ever!

It's a nice idea, but somehow I don't think it's gunna happen!!! BTW, does anyone else think that The Simpsons have changed their style to replace Futurama? I mean, there's been a lot more heart-felt/emotional episodes this season than ever before (esp. the episode where Bart & Lisa become best friend), and it just seems that the Simpsons have started using Futurama's 'recipe' (which I feel limits the chances of Futurama's return).
FuturamanerdJul 1st 2004, 05:35
Anyone else see the episode where the simpsons went to Lucas ranch (I think the name was different, but it's obvious that's what they were refering to)? While they were in a theater watching some movie (supposivly Episode 1), Marge makes a comment about the Jar Jar Binks character and how it's a negative stereotype... Just then, an italian guy pops up and starts talking about pizza and meatballs, and then says "Hold on, I've gotta go pose for a pizza box"...

And yep, it's the same guy from the Futurama pizza box. Very subtle, but it made me smile.
leelafryloveJul 2nd 2004, 07:01
yea i think simpsons have had more "feeling" or what ever lately. i love futurama so much and leela and fry were never realy an item, (i dont think anyways, its been awhil lol) i miss every one from futurama and realy hope it comes back. if any one has any info about futurama or Matt Groening rare television appearance thingy e-mail me. :)
