It's not the premise that gets me mad, nor the fact that Mike Judge is at the helm (I actually don't mind King of the Hill), it's imagining what FOX must have been thinking when they greenlighted it. The fact that they basically stole this project away from Matt and gave it to Mike is what gets me. Lets face it, when you line up their shows, Simpsons and Futurama VS. Beavis and Butthead and King of the Hill, Matt is quite clearly the superior producer. And, like I think I said in the last topic about this, the conversations that the FOX execs. must have had makes me boil.

Fox Exec. 1: Hmm, I don't know about this. Isn't it a bit similar to that show that we cancelled a while back? What was it called? Futurmania?
Fox Exec. 2: Hey, you're right! Do you think we've kicked Groening enough when he's down?
Fox Exec. 1: Hell, no! Mr. Judge, we'll take it! How much money do you need...

But I'm sure it will be quite a good movie. The premise of an idiot being frozen and waking up in the future has quite a bit of potential, as we all know. :)

I hope now more than ever that Matt's delayed appearance on Adult Swim was because he was waiting to make some kind of official announcement. And that the rumors of him being in talks with Cartoon Network are true. And that David X. Cohen is actually calling his former employees in to work on Futurama and not that other show that he's going to exec. produce. Oh, the optimism is strong in me.

It's not fair to blame KotH for having Futurama cancelled. He probably doesn't have any say when it comes to timeslot changes. Sure it's kind of baffling that Futurama was a lot more critically acclaimed among the general public, yet it got the boot, but that can't be helped. Plus King is going into the 7 PM timeslot of death this year.

You idiots can't read. The show was never intended to be set in 3001, it was just a project name placeholder. Futurama nerds had no bearing on his already made decision. I read the article and thought Judge came off sounding kind of obnoxious - and I'm a Beavis & Butthead, King of the Hill, and Office Space fan.

It wasn't so much his comments about the movie and similarities to Futurama - that seems like much ado about nothing, especially since he says the movie isn't really set at that date. As far as the "nerd" remark, pretty juvenile, but who cares, I actually take pride in my nerdiness these days.

Does anyone know what exactly he's referring to when he talks about episodes of KotH that he didn't like - too adult or something? IMO, Peggy Hill is certainly one of the most annoying and cringeworthy character's in history. She didn't seem so bad when the show first started.

KotH probably got half it's viewings from fans of other shows, I sat through those most boring half hours of my life which seemed like forever, in anxiousness to watch FUTURAMA ( there was nothing else on so i decided to try to give KotH some chances but holy shit how is that show still on the air )

I think it just goes to show you how powerful nerds can be. We can't be ignored... well, sometimes. For example, the fandome for Fox's short-lived show "Wonderfalls" seem to be victorious in their battle to get it released to DVD. Keep up the nerdwork, everyone!

This may not be relivant, but i was just thinking about why fox got rid of futurama, yet at the same time kept king of the hill. and i've come to a conclusion, tell me what you think, but it seems like fox exec's like KotH because it always ends with a moral message, where as futurama doesn't require messages, it just has better writting that doesn't fall into set peramiters and more complex plots and characters with dimention. Also Futurama is a difficult show to define, is it a cartoon or a sitcom or a sci-fi? do you advertise to kids, the traditional audience for cartoons, or to families, or to some other demographic. KotH can easily be marketed towards families, because there's no questionable material, it will always be a G rating, and had a clear moral message so right there you have the approval of all those parents/religious/government acivist groups . but to quote Mayer (as in MGM) "Movies are for entertainment, messeges should be delivered by western union."
i know simpsons doesn't really have messages, but it does make money, so fox likes it.

futurama fans are getting mad that this upcoming movie is set in the year 3000. However "Rocket Robin Hood" fans should be getting mad because "Rocket Robin Hood" was set in the year 3000 and "Rocket Robin Hood" was made long before futurama.

Not sure that anyone is checking this thread anymore, but count me in with those who say that Judge can do what he likes and that we shouldn't obsess about it.

I do want to note that his whole message for the movie is moronic and flies in the face of history. When he says the movie's "about how, 400 or 500 years from now, a guy who's your average dumbass today is the smartest person in the world," he buys into the nonsense that society is somehow declining, people are getting stupider...that's just not what's happening. We know more now than we ever did, science keeps advancing, and on and on.

Also, when he says, "If someone made a movie in the late '50s about the year 2004, it probably wouldn't have had The Maury Povich Show, and gangs, and whatever," I sincerely hope he means that the filmmaker would assume that gang violence will no longer be a problem. If he thinks that there were no street gangs in the 1950s, or hell, the 1850s, then he should check out some history books. Or at least rent _Gangs of New York_, which is at least accurate in pointing out that gangs did exist in New York back then.
