If I read the article correctly, it isn't a 50 percent chance of a return for Futurama, it was that as much as 50 percent of a season's work may have been completed, and that Fox might be considering finishing up that work. Still, I guess it's 50-50 in that either it WILL happen or it WON'T.

I'm doubting this. for one, every person who works on futurama is busy right now.

secondly, there wasnt 50% of another season completed... all they had were script ideas and future plots. some of which went into futurama comics.

I believe that Cartoon Network has talked to fox about them buying the rights to start making new episodes. Its a shame that Fox didn't work with this show very well. They put so much money into making the show then turn around and prempte it for football all most weekly. But anyways, Look to Cartoon Network for the posable revivel of this show.

Yes, do you know what I think. I think this whole cancellation was a scam. They knew people watched Futurama all the time, so why would fox cut a show that was getting so many ratings? They don't do that just because they hate the creater even if he does make snide remarks about FOX.

I think they lured people into thinking that it will never come back, but in the mean time making more episodes. Then when everyone is complaining and signing different forms to complain about Futurama dieing, BAM, new episodes BAM more ratings BAM More money BAM Fans watching over and over BAM DVD sales increase heaps!

Why would they continue to make action figures and callenders if the show was dead? It's ver suspicious.

As much as I hate to say this, futurama is dead and is never coming back. After watching the devils hands though, it seems that Matt and co wanted the fans wanting more, and didn't really think they were going out of production. So, to give us fans closure and REALLY P*!* Fox off, they should have an episode of the simpsons in which they watch the devils hands, but show us what happens after Fry finishes playing the holophoner. They could also make a few jokes about animated tv shows never lasting anymore, which would be the funnyiest thing on the simpsons fo ages

Futurama's Alert Status: Hopeful

We're rasing out Futurama Alert Status Level from "Praying" to "Hopeful" this week, after learning from producers of the show (which we won't name so they can't get in trouble) that there is a glimer of hope for the series. It's been revealed this week that there are several scripts laying in wait, as well as animatics and story boards which were left over from the last season at FOX. Like most shows, hopeful for renewal, the producers and writers will have material waiting so that if they ever return, they immediately have material to produce and get on the air as soon as they start. The news has seemed to come out at just the right time, now that sales of the 4th Season DVD are showing the series was quite popular.

We warn you, this does not mean anything "official" has been anounced. We got this info from people we trust after reading the Moviehole.com report. Stupid people were probably just confused by the commentary for "The Devil's Hand's are Idle Play Things" when on the commentary they explained that they knew there was a 50 50 chance of the show being cancled when they made the episode, that is why they made a sweet emotional episode that could go eitehr way.

Believe me, I would love this to be true more than anyone else, I just don't think it's going to happen.

I'm not liking the idea of Cartoon Network taking over Futurama. Look at the Brak Show, Sealab, and Aqua Teen. They are hreat shows, but do we want Futurama taking after them? They could ruin future episodes (if any) and make the show look bad.

Cartoon Network wouldn't produce the show. I'm sure they would leave it to the original production team, which wouldn't affect the show in any way. All those shows you just mentioned are Adult Swim originals, and that's why they have that different vibe to them.

And I can't say I love the idea of CN starting futurama up either, as a cable network I doubt they could afford the expense.
Futurama was a much more expensive show then Family guy.

I think it'd be really cool if Futurama came back- I can only hope the rumors are true. To those citing the commentary on "The Devil's Hands are Idle Playthings" as a source of 'hinting' Groening may have tried to give--- you have to remember that a lot of those commentaries were recorded out of order.....so he might not have been referring to a new season.

But I DO hope they make more! Futurama PLEASE COME BACK!

In the September 10 issue of Entertainment Weekly (the Fall TV Preview issue), on page 153 they had a little mini Q&A with Matt Groening. Here are the questions they asked him, and his answers:

EW: When did you realize that Fox wouldn't make Futurama the next Simpsons?
MG: We had the guillotine hanging over our heads before the show even went on the air. Fox's executives never understood the show, and I wasn't able to explain it to them to their satisfaction.

EW: Any chance of a Family Guy-like resuscitation?
MG: Our Adult Swim rerun ratings are fantastic, and [codeveloper] David X. Cohen and I are throwing around ideas of how to keep it alive. It's a very ambitious and expensive show, which has been a sticking point.

EW: Do you have unfinished business?
MG: All science-fiction epics have an underlying theme that things are not what they seem, and we haven't revealed all of the secrets embedded in the show. We even have characters we created at the beginning of the series that we haven't gotten around to introducing yet!

My feeling is that as long as Matt and David are still trying to bring it back, all hope is not lost.

Futurama kicks the crap out of all most everything in my opinion. I think it was stupid for fox to cancell futurama. They could make a lot more $$$$$$ if they brought it back on the air and get rid of this reallity bull crap!

I don't know MovieHole.com, so I can't judge it's credibility, but these kind of Internet rumors are a dime a dozen and I wouldn't place too much confidence in them, if any at all.

I don't consider TvTome reliable, they've had these rumors before and they all turned out to be hot air. Besides they're just quoting the MovieHole.com rumor, and MovieHole.com apperently got their rumor from another website.

In short don't get your hopes up before FOX publicly announce Futurama's return. And even then, proceed with caution.

I want to think Futurama will come back but I'm a pessimist.

Futurama is my favorite show ever! If the rumours aren't true I will continue to boycott fox! Then a while after I will probably start stealing from fox, little things at first that they'll barelly notice missing until I steal bigger and bigger things, until there is no stuff left to steal, then I will start killing the employees, first the janitors, then the secretaries, the people no one would miss or notice gone at first, it would be a joke to the people at fox, then I would start killing more and more important people until everyone was dead!! No I'm just kidding I'd just boycott them and tell everyone else to, speaking of HEY EVERYONE WHO READ THIS! BOYCOTT FOX UNTIL THEY PUT FUTURAMA BACK ON THE AIR!

And even if Cartoon Network bought it the budget for the show would be a fraction of what it was which would hurt the quality of the show, which could be a major blow.

I didn't feel like reading all the comments to see if anyone else caught it but, HOMER had a marvilous use of a great simpsons scene in the episode Homer the Vigilante, but i think his percentages are wrong, still very good, go futurama

I really hope this is true. Futurama was cut down way too early.

Appearantly, Cohen has denied the rumours of making a season 6. Of course, he might just pull a Spielberg, and wait 20 years before making another 3 seasons that are crap.

However, the so-called season 5, basically scraps and leftovers from previous seasons, seems to be coming our way on DVD in a matter of months. From what I've heard, it's not half as good as any of the previous seasons. But it would be nice to see if Leela and Fry finally ...well, you know what I mean!

I AGREE with tesssideinc, As one AUssie to another Mr Murdoch the simpsons have gone on far too long and the plots are now becoming rediculous and boring.
