Can't get enough Futurama
In Color

David X interview

David X. Cohen recently got interviewed for BBC's Cult Television (I don't know what cult tv is, but that's what their site is titled) - Here's two snippets:
Question: Do you think we'll get to see more Futurama?

David X Cohen:Well, I don't want to give false hope to any Futurama fans, because we haven't heard anything specific from the Fox network.

If Family Guy comes back and it's a bit hit, I think somebody at the network would have to turn their attention back to Futurama to at least consider it for another five minutes.

Question: Whose head would you like to see preserved?

David X Cohen: At this moment I'm going to say my girlfriend Patty. When she reads this article it's going to score me a lot of points.
I felt it was necessary to mention Mr Cohen's girlfriend on this site too to give him some extra points. Thanks to wu_konguk from PEEL for pointing this out to us.

well... i say that futurama should go back on the air. also that was pretty nice of DXC to say that kind thing about his GF. and heres just 1 question why did they have this interview.
RU486Nov 4th 2004, 09:58
There is obviously a huge interest in Futurama's return...I mean how many times have Groening and Cohen been asked/begged/pleaded about/for it now?
FuturamaRoxNov 4th 2004, 11:19
you got that right
unknownNov 4th 2004, 11:55
jipppeeee!!!
KevinNov 4th 2004, 12:10
Is having your head preserved in a jar a NICE thing????? George Foreman envied the dead and Nixon wasn't that impressed either if I recall (although spock considered it a life of dignity so the information is contradictory ;-)
It's odd that the BBC have run this interview as Channel4 are the only (non-satelite) channel to run Futurama as far as I know.
BigSexyJoo101Nov 4th 2004, 13:48
Next head in the jar.. John Kerry LOLZ!!1!!11
WezzoNov 4th 2004, 18:04
Cult TV is TV that doesn't appeal to the masses, and is what BBC2 over here specializes in, whereas BBC1 is more mainstream.
ilovemymommyNov 4th 2004, 20:32
futurama is teh back. if it wasnt so mr. x cohen wouldnt speak so often about it and just say it is over dont ask me bout futurama
MalachyNov 4th 2004, 21:28
Anyone who doesn't watch FG now therefore hindering a Futurama revival dies.
LukeNov 5th 2004, 03:04
So we must watch FG even if we hate it?
CRAP!
MalachyNov 5th 2004, 03:05
Yes, you have to watch it even more.

How does FOX calculate ratings? Is there a special machine that calculates how many TV's are tuning in or what? In any case, I may watch it, but I definetely won't buy any products.
And I don't think I'll be able to watch it. I like Family Guy & The Simpsons, but can't stand to watch it, because they have both those programs on the air, and cancelled Futurama. (Family Guy is second to The Simpsons. When The Simpsons ends it's run, FOX may try to make Family Guy take it's place, and may make Futurama take Family Guy's place. At least on the Sunday schedule. I curse FOX if they show reruns of The Simpsons on Sunday at 8:00p.m., when it ends it's run.)

That made me laugh.

hey futurama math... are you a mathematician, or are you like the futurama version of a polymath? I don't get it. If you are a mathematician, and fanatical enough to go on this page, then maybe you are one of the writers for futurama who had a math degree. Nice name anyways.
AJRimmerNov 5th 2004, 19:32
My biggest hope is still that when simpsons goes off the air Futurama will be what fox will turn to for replacement. Simpsons is a brilliant show, only one notch below Futurama, but sixteen years, that is more than enough for any show, even Futurama.
ChucklesNov 5th 2004, 21:52
I put Fox's reluctance to produce more Futurama because they sulking over the amount of jokes about them on the Simpsons, so we have to pay for as a resut of their childish behavior
AJRimmerNov 5th 2004, 22:33
Are you claiming that Fox values their good name over money? In the words of Mrs Crabapple;

HAH!
CrEENov 6th 2004, 02:20
Fox LOVES the insults thrown at them, it keeps the viewers tuned on, laughing and throwing fistful's of cash at them...

Hell if Fox hated it so much, why would Rupert Murdoch have guest starred in that Super Bowl episode?

I've got a feeling Fox will wait until the Simpsons is finished and they will note the success/failure of Family Guy before they will give Futurama its final decision.
futuramamathNov 6th 2004, 04:20
#16,

I am a mathematician, but I am not affiliated with the show; I don't have a Harvard degree - which seems to be a prereq :)
ChucklesNov 6th 2004, 11:38
Star Wars threw fistfuls of cash at Fox, yet the board of director there hated it, so yes, i say that Fox is interested in their "good name" (other well known lies include...)
hyundaiNov 7th 2004, 04:23
I am one too, so maybe we should like make a webpage together, or something. It might lead to a sultry romance.
AlThatzMeNov 7th 2004, 11:04
Well i for one really hope that futurama does come back but i thought family guy was already being put back on the air. Anyway its not a very bad show just not as good as...
you know it...
FUTURAMA (best show eva)

Haha! Very funny.

By the way, you can **try** looking for me at the joint meetings in Atlanta in January, but it will be hard to find me among the 5000 other mathematicians that will be there. I'll be the one with the Lisa Simpson sticker on my nametag (where she is holding a math book). I would wear some futurama item, but
I can't seem to find any math related futurama
merchandise :(

I was on the train this morning, and I started thinking of DXC's crazy message on season 3
bringmemorefuturamaNov 8th 2004, 22:34
Seriously, if you watch all the seasons of futurama you will probably be amazed of it's many thought-through jokes and it's never ending stories. Thats mostly what I love about futurama. What bothers me most is that they take futurama last of all their shows, I mean comon, many shows are like 500% worse than futurama. And then I'm talking about family guy. Sure its a great show but it hasn't its charm as futurama and simpsons does. The thing about simpsons is that it has been going on for so long that they are out of ideas. It has been going downhill since 4-5 years back.

I mean comon, not as many fans as futurama has pleeded you for more shows. We who watches it love it. Thats it.
BlythyNov 9th 2004, 00:53
In england, overnight ratings are calculated by about 3000 boxes across the land and what that family watches is sent to a central computer which produces results for the various TV stations (aka a sample for the country)

A smilar system is probably used in america, for the final ratings, a more accurate method may be used.
hyundaiNov 9th 2004, 04:06
#25 I wish... I haven't finished my 4th year yet. By January I almost will be though.
futuramamathNov 9th 2004, 04:53
Hyundai,

If you do attend the joint meetings in the future, drop a message on the message board addressed to "futuramamath"

Good luck finishing your degree!!
PeterNov 9th 2004, 04:55
FUTURAMA ROCKS! I would never stop liking futurama
I would watch it all day if i had all the episodes :P
Peace
Peter
LeelasmyheroineNov 10th 2004, 17:36
Peter - I DO watch it all day long. How sick is this: my hubby and I are going through bankruptcy, and yet we have scraped enough change together to buy all four seasons. Yikes. Now THAT shows fan dedication! BRING BACK FUTURAMA!!!
TheChucksterNov 11th 2004, 20:36
Something interesting to think about..

Hollywood is going to remake "The Amityville Horror" and "The Bad News Bears" - staring Billy Bob Thorton" as the head coach, a good choice in my opinion - but there remaking the first shows of what started out good but were run into the ground by B-film sequels.

What's next? Jaws 5?!?!?

Yet you can always count on Matt and David to give us continued runs of awesome, some better than others, episodes of a PH.D heavy writing club, awesome artwork and voice actors that are out of this world... Tossed into the garbage.

Thank you FOX.
WooterNov 11th 2004, 22:07
Dear Fox,
Make a little boy who's dying of AIDS come true, and please pring back Futurama. If you do not, We will take some blood form the boy and give you all a transfusion.

Love, Wooter

This message has been brought to you by the Grant a Wish, or you Shall Suffer Greatly Foundation.

No dying boy with AIDS is afilliated in any way with this message. He was made up. But there might actually be one who does want Futurama back, so let's see how that will ride on your soul, Rupert Murdock.

Rupert Murdock's soul is not afilliated with this message. It was just made up, and unlike the dying boy, it has almost no chance of existing.
WootersucksNov 12th 2004, 03:08
It's Murdoch not Murdock you douche.
hyundaipowervanNov 12th 2004, 04:24

Hello everyone, I'm Russian.
I'm very glad to read this article about some movements in Fox, because when I watched all Futurama series (in Russia they appeared a year or two later) in a week on my PC, I realized that there is no more Futurama in the universe at all! It made me depressed :) Please, bring Futurama back! 5 seasons - is's a very few!
WooterNov 12th 2004, 22:07
Dearest #35,

Don't be such an asshole, okay? I didn't do anything to do, and not knowing how to spell someone's name is no reason to form a bloodfeud between you and I.

P.S. If this message has not gotten through to you, I would like to tell you: Bring it on, bitch.

KazzahdraneNov 14th 2004, 11:16
Technically, Matt Groening's last words on the commentary were "See you on the next DVD".

Wishful thinking, and a tip of the hat to fans to tell us how much the makers loved the show.
MalachyNov 14th 2004, 21:41
Russia sucks.

Malachy,

So does Canada. So does America (The US may be a great place to live, and I have no intent to leave as I do not believe there is anywhere else to live in this world that is better, but it's not perfect.). So does everywhere else. The world is an imperfect place. Deal widdit and don't be such an a s s.

What makes you any better than Russian visitors to this board?

I also agree with #59 and #60. They seems to have hit the nail on the head.
All three of you are geniuses
SlackJawedMoronNov 18th 2004, 13:38
Stop the damn US bashing. Yeah, it's a country full of idiots, but this is a world full of idiots. Get off your high horses.
ChucklesNov 18th 2004, 15:32
Tell you what #62, i'll stop bashing the US, when the US stops assuming that the population of England stops at 4'o'clock to drink tea, and says "what" at the end of each sentance... Deal?
SlackJawedMoronNov 18th 2004, 16:17
Oh, please, you're offended by cultural stereotypes? I'm Australian, buddy, and I've heard them all.

I just find the constant 'kick the crap outta everything American' attitude people get to be rather testing after a while. Why sink to the level of the mob?

Don't sit there an pretend that your nation (or any nation) isn't full of fools with a perchant for giving labels to all comers, be the chavs, yardies, or even Americans.

Hell, #63, your post contained the assumption that Americans, as a nation, believe in some silly cultural stereotype about the English. That seems to be carrying on the stereotype that Americans are stupid and ignorant.

America, like your nation, like ALL nations, is as diverse in it's culture, belief, and way of life, as can be expected from a proper democracy. I'm not so much pro-American, as I am anti-label, anti-stereotype, anti-trendy-bashing-fest. I've got my problems with the nation, of course, but my enemy is, and always shall be, idiocy, in all it's forms. And that's one affliction that knows no national boundries.

So...

How about that David X Cohen, eh? Strapping young lad. Got a girl I hear? Kick ass.
SlackJawedMoronNov 18th 2004, 16:21
However, feel free to bash Bush. The man's a twit.
ChucklesNov 18th 2004, 17:04
Intersting view #64, your proberbly right, this nation argument is starting to get silly, lets get back to discussing Futurama
boyNov 18th 2004, 18:28
we could bash i.e. New Jersey (dont know why I first thought of New Jersey ^^)
MalachyNov 18th 2004, 21:20
New Jersey sucks.
FuturamaRoxNov 19th 2004, 02:08
if Futurama returns i hope the 5th production season would have 2 anthology of interests (by the fact production season 4 didn't). and also i hope it would have a couple of more eps with Flexo, Cubert, Dwight, Mom, Scuffy, Robot Devil, LarBarbera, Michelle, Leela's Parents, Wernstrom, Lrrr, Robot Santa (for another xmas special), and heaps more. also more eps with alternative theme songs.

anyone here who agrees with me?
hyundaipowervanNov 19th 2004, 09:17
#69, I agree.
Also I find your number overrated.
I think the most important episodes in a sixth season would concern the interplay between Fry and Leela, of course, and Fry's position as the saviour of the universe.
In the day the earth stood stood stupid, at the end when he tried to tell them what happened, he should have reminded everybody about his question in anthology of interest 1. That proves it.
SquirrelNov 19th 2004, 12:42
#70, I agree too. 6th season, maybe, will be about Leela and Fry (I hope) and some critics of Fox :)

p.s.: Russia don't suxx - Malachy do.
ChucklesNov 19th 2004, 14:31
If we do get season 5, the first issue is how is Leela's hearing going to be restored, second issue, who's next in the head jar
Bisected8Nov 19th 2004, 18:44
If you look, towards the end of the last episode Leela's hearing comes back for no reason.
*starts editing a picture of Bush...*
ilovemalachyNov 19th 2004, 22:13
in one parallel dimension leela and fry are a couple. i dont think that would be very good coz leela would dominate fry all the time like: stfu or i wont sleep with u today and stuff ^^
TheBloodyOneNov 20th 2004, 00:37
i dont think she would say stfu
MalachyNov 20th 2004, 01:37

And I agree with ilovemalachy, if I was Leela I would totally make Fry my bitch.

I'v just been watching the episode "The Why Of Fry"

In it Nibbler says that Leela is "The Other" when he asks Fry if there is anything worth saving in the future

Come on Fox we need season six to find out how Leela fits into the Nibblonian's geat plans

What's with mom gettin the bad rap in the worst...best ratings anyway? Mother's Day's one of my fav episodes - 'jerkwad robots make me sick to my ass' always raises a smile and who can fail to love a line like 'Hell hath no fury like the vast robot armies of a woman scorned'? :)

Anyway I'm quite depressed reading the starting point of this post - I've been labouring for the past 12 months under the misapprehension that I'd seen definite confirmation of more Futurama...but no :( *sob*
