Mentally insert Fry's strangled cheer from Fry and the Slurm Factory here to picture my reaction. I'm not choking at the moment, but its a funny cry.

Still, its hard to get completely excited. Now if a FOX exec. or David X. Cohen had come right out and said "A Futurama movie is going into production!", that would have given me a heart attack. This is like chipping away at a brick wall with a hammer and nail.

It's hard not to get excited about this. I'll unclench when I hear some 'official' news, but for now I'll stay cautiously optimistic.

A lot of people are saying how they'd rather Futurama come back as a show than a set of movies. I'd like to respond by saying that first, any Futurama done well is wonderful news regardless of the presentation format, and second, a successful set of movies could very well lead to another season. You can't lose!

I can't help but to be excited now. When I try to talk about it, it feels like there's peanut butter in my mouth, even when there's not! So 3 movies..that'd be like 9 episodes? I can live with that. I'm getting ahead of myself, but if those do well maybe the series will return ;).

Three movies (each 90 minutes long, roughly) would be about 12 or 13 movies (considering the actual episodes are only 20 minutes long), so consider the three movies as a short(er) season!

Ya Jon, I agree. I bet we're gonna see new eps when all is said and done. I think we're pulling a Family Guy here... First they say its gonna be just direct to DVD and then they decide to just make new episodes.

Being in australia, I had to buy all the box sets so I could see the entire series the way it was meant to.

I just finished the last episode tonight. I cried.

Futurama was cut short by at least 2 seasons. Hopefully this will redress the balance somewhat, and pave the way for the future.

I would hope they make a movie, and then make episodes and give them to Cartoon Network (as a flagship show, with proper advertising etc.)

I'm not getting my hopes up at all yet, but I am glad that if this does happen it would happen in a more loose format.

I think it is silly to create a 22 minute show if it is not being aired on TV-- there is no reson that there should be any restrictions, the writers and creators should be free to come up with whatever they can without all the bullshit that comes with being on TV if they aren't on TV.

Also, I think it is good to keep the series and what is coming in the future seperate. The series was excellent, and it ended perfectly. This way they can leave the series alone, and not sully it if they make shitty movies.

Well, I think that with the movies, the writers will do amazingly, because even with half hour shows they managed to make episodes like "Jurassic Bark" and "The Sting". Plus, apparently Family Guy had a movie in the works before the shows were renewed, so this might be a similar situation.

Speaking of Arrested Development, I gotta say Fox seems to be making some better decisions lately. They bring back Family Guy, then they renew Arrested Development (best comedy on television right now... renewed two seasons in a row despite horrible ratings), and now discussions about possible Futurama movies. Wonder if the new president (Peter Ligouri?) is responsible for some of these changes... so far so good.

I wouldn't put one of the existing ones as the one for the movie but in one of the easter eggs on the DVDs they show you some of the taglines they never used they should use one of those.

THIS IS VERY GOOD NEWS! I am SO glad to hear this news! For those of you that are complaining about 3 movies and not a new season, quit your complaining and stop being so pessimistic! FOX is finally talking about "Futurama" again and is expressing interest in new material, so what's to complain about? I mean, FOX is just discussing their options to make a movie or new season. Who knows? The movies they make could be a segway into a new season of "Futurama" shows! I am not a fan of "Family Guy," but this is very similar to what happened with that show. FOX was originally going to have "Family Guy" come back as movies, and then they decided that for the money they were going to spend for it, they would just bring it back as a new season, so FOX could do the same for our beloved "Futurama!" So, either way you look at it, FOX is extremely impressed with "Futurama's" DVD sales, [adult swim] ratings, and is expressing interest once again in the show with direct-to-DVD movies or a new season, so this is nothing but GOOD NEWS either way you look at it!! To me every episode was 100% good. I don't think it will be a bad movie. I would prefer all 3 in theaters but as long as I get my Futurama back! I don't mind it being a movie. And numba 64 thank you for making a reference to my coment.

I am VERY VERY excited to hear this, trust me. But I can't help but think that the only reason why the show is going to come back on DVD as opposed to television is becuase the DVD sales were good but not the ratings. FOX is looking at this as a cash-in not a way to please fans. They see us as dollar signs, not humans. If everyone would have just watched the show AND bought the DVDs, none of this would have happened. For those of you who never watched the series but bought the discs, thanks for showing FOX that we will pay for anything that they are involved with-you are only supporting their heartlessness.

#74 - LoBrau, has it occured to you that some people may have become fans of the show after it was cancelled from FOX, and their only choice was to buy the DVD's? Or that buying the DVD's is better than not having anything to do with the show at all? Or that those that bought the DVD's might have watched them on [adult swim] and contributed to THOSE great ratings which FOX no doubut knows about now?

I'll admit it, I watched no more than 5 of the orignally aired episodes of Futurama on FOX, but I didn't get hooked right away and they kept changing the damn timeslot and I lost interest. It's my favorite show now and I'm as big a fan as any of you.

Outstanding news on my typically futile monthly quest for new Futurama news! Bring on new Futurama! Direct-to-DVD Futurama movies are super in my opinion. It was the one real hope I had for the continuation of Futurama. FUTURAMA!!!

I only watched 4 or 5 episodes in Australia, but it was enough to make me buy the entire DVD collection when I was able to. Hopefully it will lead into episodic return.

What's funny is, I've gone through the DVD sets so many times, I don't remember too well which ones I saw originally on FOX. I know I saw "A Flight to Remember" and whichever one has the Clinton Mounument on FOX..."A Head in the Polls"? Even more funny, when I did get into the show, the show hadn't even been cancelled yet but I thought it was, THAT'S how poorly Futurama was being advertized when it was on the air.

ShaBuBu, Futurama was on channel 7 every thursday night nd was poorly advertised. Only advertising i saw was 'from the creator of the simpsons' Speaking of Simpsons im SO CUT i missed the episode with Bender on tuesday night. In all honesty direct to dvd would suck ass! it would need to go to cinemas. You hear off all these crap movies doing to direct to dvd these days due to poor sales/ratings. Futurama deserves better than that

I saw the Futur-drama episode of The Simpsons last night (24th May)in Australia and the way Bender looked wasn't so bad. I never saw any Futurama advitisment on Prime(7) if fact i think they cancelled it brang it back but at a later time slot of midnight or something then cancelled it again. They did the same thing to X-files but when they brang it back it was on at the same time (but by then I went out and got the DVDs for that too) and they haven't cancelled that again... yet. Also if they do make the movie hopfully it will go to cinimas then stright to DVD as the current plan seems to be. Also I only saw a few episodes before they took Futurama off 7 the first and then I went out and got the DVDs for it (but couldn't get all of them because most shops don't sell them (even when I when up to the Gold Coast) so I am stuck with an incomplete set).

Channel 7 advertised the pilot (which i watched), then stopped, I managed to watch the series has landed, and then 1 more episode, before the show was cut from it's timeslot, after that, i saw episodes every few months on latenight tv, and then on Foxtel (who i don't think ever had the entire series, probably because 7 had the rights or something).

I've probably only seen 4 or 5 episodes on TV, and all the rest on my PC with the DVD set.

I always wanted to watch the show, so bought the DVD set when I had the money.

I heard it had been cancelled, but because it was so badly shown in australia, assumed that there was not many shows made before it was cancelled, when i found out that it had 72 episodes, and 4\5 seasons worth, it got me angry, because watching the whole thing is just a brilliant show.

Better than the simpsons. Especially anything after about season 6.

That's how Titus, Get a Life!, Parker Lewis, an countless other shows died. It was in limbo, they "renewed" it for another season, only shorting the seasons, and pulling a Futurama, that is, playing musical timeslots.

What they're doing with A.D. for next autumn is similar to those shows. When fans can't find the show, Fox execs will blame lack of interest rather than their rigging the system with constant preempting and shifting timeslots.

For the Australians, I watched Futurama all the time on Channel 7. They did show every episode excpet for the last two. In the last season, it was on midnight Tuesday nightts, before that it was 11:30 Thursday nights and before that when it first started it was on at 8:00 Thursday nights.

Such a great show treated with so injustly.

I have the master plan:

Cancel American Dad, Family Guy, Simpsons, King of the Hill, replace them all with Futurama. Then cancel all the other non-cartoon shows and replace them with Arrested Devlopment. Is that too much to ask?

What I always wondered is why the hell did channel 10 not buy Futurama, it just seems inexplicable that channel 10 (who have The Simpsons) would not buy the next show from the guy who's given them a solid ratings crutch since they bought it.

Also this isn't the place for it though didn't ten use to own the broadcasting rights for X-files too (which I meantioned was also stuffed around by 7 too in my last post)? Also I once read a thing about Prime(7) in a tv guide about how they put all their good shows on at times most people can't watch them(I think it was commenting on it because it had the rights to something about Princess Diana and was going to show them at midday when people were at work).
So #106 it's not that 7 has no good shows it's that they put them on at stupid times.

#110 All networks (at least 7,9 and 10) do that, if they get a show they have bought, but it rates poorly (even it it's a very good show, eg sopranoes, west wing, 6 feet under, Star Trek), they put it around 10:30 till 12:30, so they people can watch if they like it, but the networks get to put crap like "25 million dollar hoax" on, that the stupid people actually watch.

Although occasionally, a channel will show it, and dump it, and another channel will pick it up, examples are every body loves raymond and the OC.

It's even more boggling about channel 10 when you see that they get almost everything that gets made by FOX.

I hope that the return of Family Guy and HOPEFULLY Futurama, starts the decline of "reality" tv, and brings back drama and scripted entertainment, not just bogans with no jobs sitting in a sauna.

Damn Fox, I hate the pricks. Can't believe the cancelled the show and it has taken them this long to realise that it actually does well. It's their own damn fault for mixing up timeslots and generally screwing it over, and its not the only show they've done it to. I'm actually surprised it got as far as four seasons.

If they go ahead with this movie idea it really shows they really don't know what they are doing. Cancel, remake, make up your friggin minds.

They did exactly the same thing with my favourite Sci-fi, Firefly. Hey, we at Fox are a smart bunch. Lets make a show, then actually show the PILOT episode LAST in the series, and in the meantime mix it up a bit, change the timeslots then cancel it. Oh, we better release the episodes on DVD just to make a couple of $$$ back.. oh whats this... they're selling million copies with no advertising?! Lucky we cancelled it then.

Thank god Universal came to their senses and picked up the rights to firefly films, and we are seeing Serenity air on the big screen in September.

It surprises me that Groening and Co. don't take Futurama somewhere else. I guess Fox are being the idiots that they are holding the rights to a show that they will never make again, just so that no one else gets to either.

Lets hope this Futurama Movie works out and makes the dumbarses eat their words. I want nothing more to see more material from my favourite animated series.

Also, George Lucas is perhaps the smartest person ever to deal with FOX. He had the foresight to see what they were back in '75, when his one major demand was that he had complete rights to all sequels and future works for Star Wars.

If a studio doesn't want to let go of a successful show, fair enough. Keeping the rights to a show that they never intend to make again is just low.

Hi all, not sure if anyone has already said this, couldn't be bothered reading all the posts, but the movies are probably more likely than the tv show returning. For a tv show Futurama's budget was incredibly high (what with all the 3d and jazz) but as a movie it's relatively low. Therefore I think it's more likely we will see at least one movie direct to dvd and future movies/ a new season will be dependent on the sales of aforementioned movie. Thats all. Is it just me, or could this "pulling Futurama" of been a clever stint by FOX? I mean how many shows get petitions to get them going again because theyre that popular? Sure, FOX are stupid and never actually advertised Futurama well, but the new movies/epsodes will gain a helluva lot more attention than if it were jus constantly running (ie. The Simpsons)

Look at it this way, if they pulled The Simpsons, then a couple of years later made a movie there would be a lot more interest if they'd let the fans "stew" like the assholes at FOX have with us.

Again, the word 'hypocrisy' comes to mind as you said in a previous post that you were self-indulging yourself sexually while you typed your comment.
