Can't get enough Futurama

Monster Fun DVDs out in the UK

While the US likely has to wait for two and a half more months, I just got my copy of the region 2 Futurama Monster Robot Maniac Fun Collection DVD from amazon.co.uk.
The US version will likely turn out similar, though I suspect that they might add a Spanish language track. So check out our review and get your copy if you are English-savvy and in Europe.

*grumble, grumble* Flipping.... reigons...

Oh well.. I'll break in a store the second it gets here, so I get first dibs!! <_< >_>
BarryJun 7th 2005, 02:17
Once it comes out in the States, I think I'm going to have to pass. It's bad enough that I'd only be buying it for the animatic and only one commentary track, but what sealed it for me was Fox trying to bludgeon us about the head and shoulders about not copying the DVD, when U.S. law allows you to make a copy of legally-owned media for personal archival purposes.

Here's hoping my refusal convinces Fox not to be a bunch of whining jerks, and doesn't convince them that new episodes/movies would be a bad idea.
brianJun 7th 2005, 04:14
If you play a region 2 disc will it work on a region 1 dvd player?
BRianJun 7th 2005, 04:17
Lets hope they love the sals of this collection and the movie so we can see more episodes get more box sets and MONSTER ROBOT MANIAC FUN COLLECTION 2!
wwefkJun 7th 2005, 08:01
I think fox executives will be watching the buyrates closely in regards to the future of the futurama straight to dvd movies in the works so buy this collection when they hit a store near you.
mooJun 7th 2005, 12:14
I think it would be stupid for fox to use any sort of sales figure for this DVD in making a decision about the future of the program. I love futurama, but can't justify shelling out the money for nothing really new.... And plenty of peopel don't really care aabout the commentary or new animatics, even if they love teh show.. Hopefully still, it sells well, and we all get new futurama :)
JoeJun 7th 2005, 13:29
If you live in the us or canada (region 1 basically..) get some software like dvd shrink (dvd is free) or something (you need a dvd + and or - rw and a dvd + and or - rw player for this) and make the disk region free :P.
I wonder if in the comentaries they hinted on futurama's return?
JoeJun 7th 2005, 13:32
sorry about the double post but where I said "(dvd is free)" its suppose to be "(dvd shrink is free)".
TheParaboxJun 7th 2005, 18:14
#2: I'm betting same as usual, the trend with most DVDs is Region 2(UK), Region 4(Australia) then Region 1(US).

Logically(and kind of unfairly) this would be done so they could see how sales go, and so if they change their mind on any of the features, they can alter the R1 discs.
drbendernyeJun 7th 2005, 18:42
HORRAY im English and can get the dvd.
one thing why cant you just get a Multi-region dvd player with the dvd(i know its expencive but its worth it)?
BrianJun 7th 2005, 18:59
I would give every bit of money I ever get and give it to fox if they return the show.
RichardJun 7th 2005, 20:15
So would I. Allllllll 13 dollars of it.
eljuanJun 7th 2005, 21:06
i'm also english, and i already have the dvd, but i gotta say its kinda disappointing. if they couldve done new commentaries for all the episodes it mightve been more worth it, but i suppose its all for a good cause...
ZoidburglostJun 7th 2005, 21:59
Hopefully it'll be by the end of the summer when they release it cause by then I'll hopefully have all the seasons on dvd. but I wanna get like, 5 copies of this dvd to give as stocking stuffers @ x-mas. but I'll get one for myself. and what am I gonna get for the ppl who don't like futurama u ask? the dvd and a flaming poo bag! (j/k)
zoidypooJun 7th 2005, 22:12
does any body know why they dident make new commontaries
zoidypooJun 7th 2005, 22:23
if u go 2 simpsonschannel.com u will see they are planning to make a simpson movie meaning that if matt groring is going to make a simpsons movie do u guys think he will care enough to resarect futurama
RichardJun 7th 2005, 22:25
Me too, all $13 of it.
FuturamaNerdJun 8th 2005, 03:23

genderbenderJun 9th 2005, 18:47
i luv futurama but it is not teh bak.
they are just makin some money.

more than 10 euro (
namehereJun 10th 2005, 09:11
I don't even have a job, but i'll be going into the savings for this one! (unless someone else buys it for me... (ah family are good for some things)
TaqJun 10th 2005, 09:48
This is a total rip-off. I mean the DVD has 4 episodes I already own. I have bought all 4 volumes(all 5 seasons)on DVD and I have no need to buy this. I'm sure many people will agree.
zoidypooJun 10th 2005, 18:09
taq dude if u want the show u must buy the dvd fox isnt gonna restarect the show if the new dvd does nothing in sales moron
MarciJun 10th 2005, 21:35
#24- I think Matt would be more interested in creating a Futurama movie than the Simpsons movie. I mean the Simpsons is still making new episodes, and Matt seemed to really love Futurama.

Moving on...I cannot understand why they wouldn't make new commentaries for all of the episodes! The only thing about this dvd that makes it worth anything is the commentaries because most fans have some or all dvd boxsets already. It just doesn't make sense...!
MarciJun 10th 2005, 21:39
#34 Like someone said earlier...they can't judge the future of the show because of a dvd that has almost nothing new. The dvd box sets was the real way for them to judge because it was a better representation of how many fans futurama has.
haroldzoidJun 10th 2005, 23:02
i do not think this is the best path for futurama to take. As much as i would love to see a return for the show a four episode DVD is not the answer as the show has been canceled for a while now big fans own all the box sets and other more casual viewers dont wana spend a decent amount of money on this. ahh well its 3rd in the dvd charts in the un (it did reach 2nd) so i should probably eat my words.and i dnt think a futurama movie is a good idea either
stephanieJun 11th 2005, 01:17
As much as I adore and am hopelessly addicted to this show, I already have every episode on the swanky DVDs and I don't see the point in spending the money on this when there's hundreds of other DVDs I "need".
I think this is just Fox's way to get some quick scratch from the "Cartoon Network" johnny-come-lately watchers and apparently the region 2 chaps. I'm so Futurama-nerdtastic that I'd rent this to listen to the commentary though.

Oh, but the cover is awesome! I can't believe nobody mentioned that. Go Bender go!
1-upJun 11th 2005, 02:37
Don't get me wrong by saying this, and I am a huge fan of Futurama, and pissed off that they took it off air on Fox, but if Fox was really thinking that they could put Futurama back on air and a success, the only reason it failed was because of the crappy slot time, but Fox is too damn stupid to realize shows that only come on on Tuesday @ 11pm don't usually catch on no matter how great they are, they wouldn't just throw together some dvd like this. They could at the VERY least find some slot time on the second Fox channel FX, I mean they have King of the Hill on that channel from 5-8 (exagurated) and that show sucks most of the time.

Then again I could be wrong, this could be a scheme to see how many people go for the dvd and I could have wasted a 3 minutes of all of your lives.
The cover art IS awsome though!
zoidypooJun 11th 2005, 22:19
i dont know if this will come to a shock to people but famliy guy dident just come back cause of dvd lots of other crap was sold like t-shirts action figures and stuff mostly sold at hot topic also im pretty shure people worte to fox asking for it back i think the smae must be done for futurama but i dont know were they sell futurama crap besides online so i am going toi agree with 1-up but nick fx is just one sister channel of fox of many that the show could go to also i dont think region 2,3,4 people get it but i am pretty shure there is sister sites of fox for counterys out side the states and i poast in on the billy west thing that the cover art is alsome if you want it go to tvshowsondvd.com go to release schedule than august i think 23 click pic and print it big i got my it is relly nice

i am lobster god
JAStewartJun 12th 2005, 00:07
I will get this, I like commentaries.
TaqJun 12th 2005, 23:33
Does a copy bought straight from Fox store has a different cover art?

MatthewKennyJun 13th 2005, 15:50
Im glad i live in the uk because you americans can have guns but not futurama until years away. If anyone whats any info on any of the futurama DVDs i have them all. And everyone is asking if it will play on region 1... When it will if you have multi region DVD player and will not work in you DVD drive on computer because of windows.
Any Questions Please Email
zoidypooJun 13th 2005, 17:29
where do u get a mult- regions dvd player
UKlivingpersonJun 13th 2005, 18:52
hooray! but wait - what is extra on this collection? i already have every episode on dvd - why buy this too? i'm going to anyway, because i'm a creepy nerd...
MaskedwackoJun 13th 2005, 19:36
There are a lot of mixed comments about the new DVD: about who gets it first, buying in the first place with no new content (shows) on it, if buying it will really get Fox to put out new Fururama movies or put the TV show back on and so on and so on.......

Well, I do not know if Fox will put Fururama back into production if we buy the new Monster Robot....DVD, but I am somewhat sure what they will do if we don't buy it!

The Maskedwacko rides again.
JeremyFeinJun 14th 2005, 22:34
Zodiypoo # 45

To answer your question you have two options, you can buy a multi region dvd player. But it'll cost you, They're on ebay on just search.

Two if you have a PS or Xbox there is a Action Max Code breaker thingy you can buy at Gamestop. For 30.00 and they can play multi region dvd's.
zoidypooJun 15th 2005, 00:16
#48 so i cant buy a mini dvd player for milt-regions or just buy a mili-dvd player in the store no a fence but ebay sux also 1-up srry 4 what i did
DamitolJun 15th 2005, 17:57
I have all the DVD sets and I occassionally still watch it on Cartoon Network, but I will still buy this the day it comes out. Why? Because Futurama is one of the few - no strike that - is the *only* show that I can watch an episode I've seen numerous times, and still get a good laugh or two out of it, and this contains two of my very favorite episodes (plus two other really good ones). I like the idea of putting on a single DVD and watching 88 of the best minutes of one of the best series ever made.

And if my buying it helps show FOX there is still an audience for new Futurama, hey, that's a bonus.
1-upJun 15th 2005, 23:02
At first, I disagreed with the making of this dvd, with every episode being on dvd already and all, but now I think that I will look into buying it being I'm getting a job this summer and all.

Looks like THEBOZ(#50) took another overdose, ever considered shock therapy?

SpacePopeJun 16th 2005, 14:26
look the commentry is very good maybe not enough to fork out cash for it, but if you claim to be a futurama fan and wish to save it then buy this and maybe they will make those new futurama movies come on save futurama scarifising a little cash.
If some one asks me to spend around
JeremyFeinJun 17th 2005, 04:16
Yeah zodipoo if you have the PS2 or Xbox for 30 dollars buy the Action Max Replay device and make sure it says that it can play multi region dvd's because the new one can.
MatthewKennyJun 17th 2005, 20:08
I don't know how it works but you can buy a multi region dvd player from any good dvd retailer or even ebay or go to amazon
You can easily get them from anywere but you must ask for multi or all region dvd player
