Futurama Season 3 DVD Details

While Americans are still anxiously awaiting their Futurama Season 1 DVD release due on March 25th, some more details from the emerging European Futurama Season 3 DVD release are available through the British content rating board:
  • The season "5" episode "Route of All Evil" was reviewed, so we can expect to see it in the mix of the 22 episodes.
  • There will be 4 discs, just like with the season 2 DVDs.
  • There will be an animatic of the season "4" episode "Anthology of Interest 2".
  • Disc 4 has 3D models of the Momcorp ship, Robo Santa's sleigh, the Titanic, Nibbler's ship, the VW van, a tornado, a buggalo walk, the robot arm neighbourhood backlot and some hover convertible.
  • There are full length commentaries listed for 19 of the episodes. I'm somewhat confident that the remaining 3 will be on there in the end, too. We'll have to keep checking on this one.
  • A total of 15+ minutes of deleted scenes from 17 episodes.
There is no set release date, but the hints are pointing at late April or early May. I've added some extended info to our Futurama Season 3 DVD details page.

I notice a key word missing from this article: "commentary". I'm in the U.S. and have yet to hear one, but I understand from all I've read that the commentaries are (after the episodes themselves of course) the real gems of these sets. So - will there be commentaries on Season 3 and any confirmed word yet on their existance as part of the future Season 4 set?

The BBFC have commentaries listed for I think almost all the episodes. I'm hoping they haven't cut down on commentaries in order to keep the set on 4 discs...

I didn't at first list commentaries because some are still seemingly missing and it would be guesswork to say if they will remain missing (4 discs contraint) or added later this week or so. You will in any case get lots of commentaries though. I guess I will update the news and clarify on that.

fantastic. i can't wait till they are realeased, as mine will be pre ordered. at least europe may not have the best prices, but we get this first.

Great Just in time for my birthday, I love living in the UK. Also, I know that this is quite far off yet, but when the season 4 DVD set arrives, and assuming that futurama doesn't get renewed by fox, I think that Greoning or somebody working on the show should get the chance to make a proper retrospective detailed documentry on the rise and fall of Futurama. Until now all the extra features have been stock material, promotional featuretes, trailers, deleated scenes... This would be a good way to end the DVD collection. Oh yeah it would be good to hear Katey Segal on at least on commentry track.

I don't believe space would be a constraint. The Simpsons season two DVD set consists of four discs, and they have all the commentaries.

forgive me for saying this but I, as an american Futurama fan, am a little bit depressed as to why the US versions of these great sets have yet to see the light of day. I find it quite depressing that even though the show originates in the US that the UK is the first to see these...the US is still waiting on season 1 and they're already to season 3 in the UK. ouch...it is confusing, since there is no change of language or editing necessary, why they couldn't have a simultanious release. I am in support of all futurama material and I am sure that Fox has a reason for this but it just upsets me

Futurama is being released in europe first as a test, before fox risk losing money by releasing it in the US. Also the show has been better recieved in the UK, where the ironic humor and satire goes down better with the british sense of humor. No offence but i think futurama is just too clever for the mainstream US audience.
