Thanks, James!

So much for Play.com, hah?

Can anyone who preordered for the old price tell me if they updated it to the new price automatically?
CyberKnightApr 12th 2003, 00:00
I pre-ordered at the old price - it didn't update by the time I got there (maybe they update at the end of the day). Suffice it to say, I cancelled and re-ordered (through CGEF, of course ;) ) because presumably they can still charge you extra if you leave your possible credit deduction at the original value?
TeralApr 12th 2003, 00:00
When the season 2 set came up for pre-order, I ordered it right away and got it with the big discount it was originally priced with. Later when the price was adjusted upwards my order didn't change, I still got the discount. This time it was the same (as CyberKnight mentioned).

I think you're stuck with the pricetag at the time you make your pre-order on Amazon. Not sure, but it seems likely.
CosmicCastawayApr 12th 2003, 00:00
Play.com have had it listed as a pre-order at
CyberKnightApr 12th 2003, 00:00
But that won't:

a) help CGEF
b) arrive as quickly as Amazon (and not at all to locations outside the UK - I think), because Play ship all items through 2nd Class (3-5 Business Days instead of 1-2). At least June 2nd is a Monday so we won't be affected by the weekend delay.
EtanApr 12th 2003, 00:00
I preordered it the day it was listed and my price has been adjusted.
McGradyApr 12th 2003, 00:00
I just ordered the dvd set, and they charged 25.52 pounds (not including shipping) instead of the 29.99 pounds as advertised.

Citizens of the U.S.--well, citizens of ANY country outside Europe--had better look at this before ordering from Play.com. That's "Jersey," not "New Jersey."
BornintheUKApr 13th 2003, 00:00
I was going to pre order it from play, but now i'll pre order it from amazon, does anyone know how long the DVD will stay at this price?
CosmicCastawayApr 13th 2003, 00:00
a) I wasn't aware ordering it through Amazon would help CGEF.
2) What are you a speed delivery nut? :-)
CyberKnightApr 13th 2003, 00:00
a) Yeah, it will - if you order through the links provided in the update.

b) Yep! ;)
CosmicCastawayApr 13th 2003, 00:00
a) Consider CGEF helped :-)

b) Patience my good man!

My season 3 order didn't update, i had to cancel and then re-order.

One a related matter (kinda)...
I'm trying to get a copy of Futurama comics #12, but the site I usually order my Futurama issues from (booksncomics.co.uk) isn't stocking it yet.
Can any other UK fans recommend another relyable site to order from?
jojoApr 13th 2003, 00:00
i imported from cdwow.com for season 2 and i liked them also they have free worldwide shipping i live in u.s.a and it only took them 7 days to get it to me so i was happy with them season one and two was 29.99 pounds so i think that season 3 should be the same i can not wait till i get it
LoughboroughApr 14th 2003, 00:00
Does anyone have any idea how much high street retailers will be charging? Is it worth pre-ordering from Amazon or waiting till it's on the shelf to avoid p&p costs?
CyberKnightApr 14th 2003, 00:00
If the RRP is
tastycratApr 15th 2003, 00:00
Don't know whether this might benefit any fellow Americans here, but let me suggest purchasing from amazon.ca instead of amazon.com or amazon.uk. Consider this example:

If you purchased the first two seasons of "Red Dwarf" from amazon.ca, it would cost you $48 US (including $7.50 shipping - ouch!)

If you purchased the same items from amazon.com, it would cost you $53 (even with free shipping).

There are probably ways around the international shipping cost - for example, if you can have it shipped to a Canadian address (free Canadian shipping for orders over $39), and then have that person ship it to you in the USA.

This would take a few days more, but if your priority is savings, then going through Canada might be your best bet.
[-mArc-]Apr 15th 2003, 00:00
Futurama Season 3 is not out in Canada anytime soon.
For season 1, even with standard shipping, the set is 3 dollars more expensive from Canada than from the US. Some DVDs might be cheaper there, but it's not a general thing. Also, think of us here ;) We want to keep this site going for a bit longer still and amazon.ca isn't helping us.

Mikey, right now that's the closest you'll get to the cover art. (Thanks to James, #2 above.)

Dang it, the URL was too long. Here it is again, but broken up--you may have to copy and paste it a piece at a time. (Hope this works!)

BrainSluggo, i've just checked and it still says
BrainSluggoApr 22nd 2003, 00:00
Nope. This is strange. I got an e-mail from Amazon UK informing me of the price change and immediately posted here AND e-mailed [-mArc-] about it; [-mArc-] notified me about the unchanged online price. I hadn't checked it before posting; I just assumed it was fixed.

However, I did check my Amazon account, and the price change is indeed in effect for my order. Keep watching the price/your account...
ChrisEdwardsApr 22nd 2003, 00:00
I just got an update from Amazon saying the price is $25.52 instead of $29.95 and that they have updated my order.

I guess that's
