Cartoon Network Futurama Schedule 24

Starting Tuesday, Cartoon Network will for a last time go back to the 1ACV block before it will suspend Futurama after a July 24th airing of "The Lesser of Two Evils". If you for some reason never saw the series pilot (*cough* get the DVDs), watch it.
Mon 23rd: Where No Fan Has Gone Before
Tue 24th: Space Pilot 3000
Wed 25th: The Series Has Landed
Thu 26th: I, Roomate

They will restart sometime later the year I guess. They got the rights to all 72 Futurama episodes after FOX aired them. Up to now, CN didn't air the last 16 or so of them.

I'll bet 100 bucks that they'll show two "Family Guy"s. I hate that show, and it always gets aired in place of shows I like a hell of a lot more. *cough* The Tick *cough*

So why are they replacing it? I was under the impression that they were getting good ratings with Futurama reruns...

I guess they're replacing it because they don't want to overexpose the show. This is the third or fourth time they've gone through the 1acv episodes, right?

However, I think this is the worst time to do it. Kids are finally getting out of school for summer vacation, and can stay up later--they should give the entire series one more run, before pulling it. Oh well.

Damn it! This is going to screw up my whole routine. I usually watch Futurama before I go to sleep. Well, here comes the insomnia and always tire when at work. Good thing I'm not a school bus driver.

Cartoon Network doesn't want to overexpose a show?

I wish they had that attitude about all their shows, like Dexter, Ed, Edd & Eddy, Courage the Cowardly Dog, and many, many others...

Well, I just hope Futurama doesn't end up like Space Ghost: Coast 2 Coast. CN never runs it anymore. Used to be on Sunday nights around 10:45 or so. I think the last time I saw an episode of SG was in December and here it is June and I haven't seen an episode of it yet. I'd like to see it again, if only for a little while.

In Response to #6: Home Movies will replace Futurama at the 10:00 spot. So for the time being it would be Home Movies and Family Guy.

SGC2C has been on every sunday for a few weeks now, its the last comedy show of the night before the 2 anime shows. I think its on at 12:30, or there about. There will be new SGC2C episodes later this year too.

And I am kind of glad they are stopping Futurama for a little while, because when it comes back I will be excited about it being on all the time again.

I wonder if Cartoon Networks' decision has anything to do with the startup of the "Spike" (TNN) adult cartoon block starting this Thursday? They have 3 animated shows scheduled starting at 10pm - "Ren & Stimpy Adult Party Cartoon", "Gary The Rat", and "Stripperella". Looks like TNN is throwing some bucks into these shows; they have Kelsey Grammer and Pamella Anderson providing voices, and I guess Billy West will be doing Ren & Stimpy again...I just hope Futurama is only on a short break while Fox airs the final five episodes. I'll be jonesing for sure.

Guess winning an Emmy for Outstanding Animated Series in 2002 wasn't good 'nuf for Fox, eh?

Anyhow, rumor has it that to boost ratings, CN *may* revive the show (buy the rights to it). Who knows.

A friend showed me an article in a magazine (i think it was called "Media Magazine") that said Futurama was the most watched show if its type (cartoon) for men 25-45 (or something like that). Hmmmm.

Please do not take Futurama off the air. It is a ritual with me and my girlfriend to watch it then go to bed. The reason the ratings are starting to slip is Because you are showing the same damn season over again. There are other episodes of Futurama, Adult Swim. Quit typing on the screen and get futurama back on the air. Would it hurt to play some of season two or three. More ratings must be something CN does not want. Why does everybody hate Futurama?

Uh, #17 Phillip,

Up until now, CN _has_ been airing the shows in order (IIRC) - meaning seasons 1-4 as they aired FOX (although the commercials are placed differently). Season four was on until Tuesday's "Where No Fan Has Gone Before". After hitting the end, CN goes back to Season One's "Space Pilot 3000." Rest assured in about a week, season 2 will start (until hiatus).

It's a fairly common practice for cable networks to show a series in this fashion. At least there's enough episodes of Futurama to do this -- many other CN shows have only a few episodes. Harvey Birdman had just six until last month for cryin' out loud.

Sometimes networks show series out of order to jazz up interest (marathons, viewers choice, etc.), but I don't think it really works (TNN's airing of Star Trek: The Next Generation really irks me.)

I would have thought they would have aired season 5 whenever FOX got around to airing it, but alas that remains to be seen.

I don't want Futurama to go off the air on CN, and I hope that this is limited hiatus. I know that Adult Swim has been plugging a few new series (some short-run series).
